Worth a lot more !
I purchased this lamp for my very dark living room. It's wonderful. Since it uses up to a 100 watt bulb, it gives me all the light I need. Now, I read the reviews only giving the lamp 1 or 2 stars...1. The lamp IS sturdy if you take the time to put the poles together correctly. Each section of the pole has a small bump on it--line that bump up to the ridge in the pole above it, wiggle into place, then turn the pole slightly and it will lock into place.2. As for the shade locking ring... if you look carefully , you will see that the ring actually has 2 parts--the inner tube and an outer ring. Remove from the lamp, put the shade in place, line the locking tube up with the center of the lamp and screw it down as far as you can--THEN, while holding the inner tube steady, simply screw down the RING. It's the ring part that holds the shade in place.I will make a suggestion to the company to re-write the instructions to make the assembly a bit clearer.Other than that--I LOVE my new lamp!!

Good deal
I was impressed with the heft of this lamp for the price. It's sturdy and, other than the thin, cheaply constructed plastic shade, is a great lamp for the price. The first one I received was defective because the locking cap wouldn't screw on to attach the shade, no matter what I tried. I wasn't sure if the fault was with the locking cap, the area it attched to or if it had something to do with the shoddy shade. But it was frustrating, to say the least. That same day I called onlinecomponents and they were wonderful! The sent me a replacement lamp within 10 days and did not require the non-functioning one be returned...saving me more shipping fees. I'd have gladly paid a bit more for a better quality, perhaps glass, shade though. But if you're looking for an inexpensive floor lamp, with 3-way lighting capabilities, this is a good deal.

Great price for what you get!
We bought three of these for our apartment and they worked great. Easy to assemble and they provide a great amount of light for a room. We brought them with us when we moved into our new house and they still are great lights for any room. They look great and nobody would guess the shade was plastic unless you touch it. For the price, you can't beat it!

Functional
Looks pretty cheap with the cheesy plastic shade. That being said, it doesn't look AWFUL, and from a distance, just sort of exists as a benign, ordinary floor lamp. Lighting quality isn't bad either. Totally worth it for this price.

Looks okay but could not screw on the shade
Just opened the box and assembled the lamp, which went pretty well. There's a gap in the gold trim on the shade which I turned toward the wall.Step No. 5 in the instructions says: "Unscrew the plastic locker from the socket and place the acrylic shade onto socket cup; then screw the plastic locker to secure the shade." However, when I unscrewed the plastic locker from the socket and tried to place the acrylic shade onto the socket cup, the plastic locker would not screw back on to secure the shade. I paid almost $13 plus delivery for the lamp. To ship it back would cost almost as much as the lamp and I need a lamp in my bedroom, so I put a 28-watt flourescent bulb (equal to 100 watt incandescent) into the socket and did not screw in the plastic locker. The lamp shade is whobbly, but I have it connected to the wall switch so I won't have to use the on-off switch on the lamp. It seems the space taken by the shade kept the plastic locker from connecting so that it could be screwed in. Without the shade in place, it screws in, however. Go figure!I think the lamp looks okay, but with the loose lampshade, the lamp is not very stable.

Got exactly what I wanted/expected...
I bought five or six of these when they were priced at around $5-6 and they were well worth every penny. We recently purchased a home that was built in the 1980's and the lighting is not great. These torchieres will do a lovely job of tiding us over until we can afford to install the lighting we want. They ARE cheaply made, but they hide that fact fairly well. We have one in our formal living room and it fits in rather nicely. Let's be honest... if you do it right, a corner lamp shouldn't be your visitors' main focus anyway. Right? These lamps make for great supplemental lighting. They'd also be great for a dorm room, office, waiting room, first apartment (gift?)...I'm not the least bit displeased with my purchase.

Horrible!
Hey, I wasn't expecting much but seriously, these are a pretty bad. I bought two of these for my office. The plastic shade comes all dented and looks so cheap. The stupid pieces don't fit together right and so if you move it, you have to pick it up from the base or it falls apart. AND the switch gets stuck pretty much all the time so that it's really hard to turn it. I'm the kind of person who enjoys fixing things so I've taken it apart and tried to fix it and its still rotten. The second lamp is just completely broken now after only 6 weeks. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!! I'm back on amazon looking for new lamps actually :)

Doesn't look that bad, works perfect, buy two for perfect room lighting
I bought two of these for my bedroom in my apartment here at college. At $10 each and $20 total, i get the lighting a $50 halogen lamp would give me. These lamps work well and get the job done. If you're not an interior decor maniac and just want some light that does the job, looks good enough and is easy and sturdy to use, get this!
