Not comprehensive - not even close
This book only describes a small number of the trails in the wilderness. Not very useful for me as I am planning to backpack a prescribed north-south route (Idaho Wilderness Trail). Most of the trails making up this route aren't covered. Also note, most of the hikes are short, few multi day trips. I was expecting something more comprehensive, like M. Fuller's Guide to the Frank Church.

Excellent Resource
Very detailed and thorough description for a large number of hikes in the Selway-Bitteroots. Gives great directions to trailheads, length of hikes, water sources, etc.

Great Book For The Bitterroot
Lots of hikes in this book. It is well organized and, so far anyways, is accurate on hike descriptions, stats, trailhead directions, etc.

Low rating for Kindle version of this book
This is a decent book describing hiking trails in the area. I have used it as a guide on a few trails. On one trail the information was completely outdated, sending me down an old version of the trail that was no longer maintained. It was a somewhat scary experience when that old trail eventually vanished and I had to bushwhack my way out of what could have become a dangerous situation. Thus, be aware of the publication date of this book.My biggest gripe is with the quality of the images in the Kindle version of the book. The images contain text and symbols with tiny font that is difficult to read due to insufficient image resolution and size. Since Kindle reader has no zoom capabilities this exacerbates the problem. However, even if one could zoom the images the resolution of the images is too low to allow one to magnify them to any degree so as to become legible. The maps included in this book contain important information that cannot be easily accessed in the Kindle version. This was my first Kindle book purchase. I figured I would try it as it would be an environmentally friendly choice, in addition to being cheaper than a hard copy and easier to store and transport. I sincerely regret this purchase. For this book the hard copy would have been far more useful. I have come to understand that this problem of poor image resolution is not uncommon among Kindle ebooks. There is some finger-pointing about who is to blame in such instances, Amazon vs. publisher, but in the end the bottom line is the Kindle version is of poor quality. I will think twice before purchasing Kindle ebooks again unless I know the content is 100% text.

Hiker's friend
Pretty good "OK" book. It's gotten us to around 15 trail heads this past summer. I'd like to see some comprehensive trail maps though. What's there isn't really adequate. Over all though ? It's OK or a bit better.
