1000 Record Covers

Fun pastime!
Here is a fun pastime with friends using this book along with a digital music subscription service (it's kind of like playing 'name that tune' with a Jukebox); hand the book around to friends and take turns selecting music to add to a queue. You will all rediscover DEEP CUTS that haven't been heard in decades. Make the selections without telling each other whats being selected and then see if others can recall the artist and album... then the person who selected the song can show everyone the album cover and see if it jogs their memory. It leads to discussions about popular culture, personal histories, etc.

Exactly what you want in album art
Although Ochs makes his own idiosyncratic choices for what is important / beautiful / oddball for a whole generation of commercial art in support of music, 1000 means that you'll get a great sweeping look at it all. I'm personally encouraged by the emerging art attached to digital albums and am hoping for a new renaissance of art + music in the future. I saw one review here that dinged the book as containing obscene images --- that's the way the culture was and an honest attempt to survey it has to bring in some nudity and graphic in-your-face. The reviewer obviously stands so far to the right in moral values as to wear puritan clothes.

Cool book for old record collector
Purchased for my father who has a ton of old records. He likes that there is some obscure stuff in it & it has inspired him to look up old music. Yes there is some nudity as others have said, but it wasn't offensive to him.

Truly great - wish it were bigger - can't wait for a third edition bringing it up to the present!
Fabulous, though I wish the page and photo size were bigger though. Also wish for a new edition with the last 20 years included! As I understand it, Taschen's new edition cuts out the 1950s and makes the book only 800-odd covers! They should do some work on the last 20 years and get it right. We can hope, anyway. Wonderful book.

Just Ok
The book is cool if you have a large record collection and want to connect what you have to what the writer deems as neat. Other than that, the book is not very organized or relevant.

Perfect Little Book...
Our Son is into Albums, and this book is fun to look through. It includes details about the album art, too.
