Amazing recipes and lovely photos!
I loved the easy conversational tone of the book and the simplicity of the recipes. After reading this well organized and user friendly cookbook cover-to-cover, I found so many of my favorite recipes, that I couldn't resist firing up my wok to try the Beef and Broccoli for dinner. The recipe was easy to follow exactly. Ingredients were already in my pantry. Delicious! So much tastier and healthier than take-out. My family loved it and I did too. Looking forward to trying lots of these recipes!Thank you, Charmaine, for sharing a bit of your family's culture and obvious love of healthy Chinese cooking through this lovely book.

Grab your wok and go
Looking for your first Chinese wok cookbook? This one works nicely as an introduction for the beginning cook and maybe also for the experienced cook looking for some variations on a theme. It has a plethora of easy dishes using ingredients found in your own market (and a couple of exotic ones you can order from amazon). The healthy spin means stir fry alternatives to deep frying and 'light on the oil' alternatives to some Panda Express favorites. The recipes are easy to read and follow and contain an essential ingredient list and explanation. There are colorful and attractive illustrations. The two first chapters cover the basics of cooking Chinese at home with your own wok along with a guide to the necessary ingredients. This one, along with Diane Kuan's The Chinese Takeout Cookbook, would be the one I would give to a neophyte.

Amazingly simple and delicious recipes
I have never owned a wok or cooked stir fry before I bought this cookbook, my wife wanted to eat healthier and stir-fry was the plan, since I do the majority of the cooking I decided to get a cookbook and a wok and all the things that go with it, I wanted to do it the best I possibly could. I am so glad I got this cookbook, the recipes are delicious and very easy to follow. I've prepared at least half of the recipes and none of them have been bad, we decided to rate them on a 10 star system and we've only had 1 recipe that turned out to be less than 8 stars, mostly because we didn't like one of the ingredients, I can't remember what the ingredient was. If you want to have delicious easy to prepare stir fry, this is definitely the best cookbook available.

Truly Simple and Tasty, and Healthy too!
This cookbook is amazing! Starting with the basics and moving into the typical Chinese takeout dishes, it is the best! You wouldn't think that cooking plain old rice is something difficult, but I have never been able to do it! It always turns out too sticky or too crunchy, but following Chairmaine's instructions, my rice turned out perfectly the very first time! The Beef and Broccoli recipe was super simple, and even pleased my finicky teenagers! I love that these are truly healthy recipes, and that they are developed from her personal experience. The cooking tips are helpful too. When my husband made the Hot and Sour Soup and noticed the broth didn't seem as clear as the photo, we checked the recipe again. It turned out that Charmaine had explained how mixing the egg at a different speed produced different results! I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who want s to eat restaurant quality Chinese food, without the restaurant prices and without the unnecessary sodium, sugar and fat that restaurants use! Thanks to this cookbook, my wok has moved from my basement storage room back to its rightful place in the kitchen!

Simple, easy, yet packed with flavour! I've already made 2 of the dishes and have 2 more on my menu. A must have book xxx

It got me cooking out of my wok again
There are a few recipes we really like in this cookbook. There were a few duds too but over all we use this a fare amount. Some favorites are the black pepper asparagus and chicken and the stir fry sauce that we use in a variety of ways. We did not like the orange beef or the honey sesame chicken at all but they aren't like your Chinese restaurant favorites with the sweet syrupy sauces and lean too heavy on the vinegar. We did make the crab egg foo young and it was good if you like egg foo young and you could change out the meat easily. I still need to try more recipes in this book.

A Little Apprehensive at First
My son was turning 16 and LOVES Chinese food, we go to the Asian Buffet every year, but with Covid-19 we weren't taking any chances, so I ordered this book and prayed I could make some of his favorites. It was a success! We made General Tso's, egg drop soup (minus the tomatoes), vegetable lo mein, and my families true authentic fried rice my MIL taught me before she passed away that her family made growing up in Okinawa. It wasn't hard finding some of the "unique" ingredients, like hoisin sauce, I was able to find them at our HEB superstore (it saved me a trip to the Asian market in town). I can't wait to make more recipes from this book.

Excellent cookbook!
I have made many dishes from this cookbook and I am in love with the meals. I have most of these ingredients in my fridge, like fresh ginger, soy sauce, and fresh garlic. I have never purchased oyster sauce and black bean paste, but I am happy to say I have them now. I recommend this book to everyone who loves simple Chinese food and wants to make their own. The meals do not take a long time to prepare and they are delicious so I give it five stars.

Überraschend gut
Die Rezepte selbst hauen mich nicht überwältigend vom Hocker, sind jedoch solide.Der durchaus lesenwerte Teil darüber was die chinesische Wokküche ausmacht gleicht das mehr als nur aus. Wer ein umfassendes, englischsprachiges Wokeinsteigerbuch sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Insbesondere die Tipps zum Richten "einbrennen" des Woks haben mir gefallen - das lassen so viele Bücher weg, dabei ist es so wichtig. Klar - bei den Pflegetipps muss man ein wenig schmunzeln, denn kaum einer zieht das so im Detail durch; aber es ist dennoch gut mal Schwarz auf Weiß zu lesen, wie eine perfekte Wokpflege aussehen kann.
