Attractive bag with a lot of organization
Update 2: I wanted to write a review for the 30L (I bought both sizes), but Amazon doesn't seem to allow it. This is a big flaw. These 2 products are completely different and the reviews should not be combined. I do like the 20-30l backpack a lot though.Update: after playing around with this bag 2 things strike me. One is that the duffel/backpack design isn't really practical. For example, I go to the airport carrying the bag as a duffel and check-in, Now I have to walk 5 blocks to the gate so I decide to put it on my back. Well, that bottom of the bag that will be touching my clothes/back was just sitting on the ground while I checked in. There is no other way to place it due to the shape other than the bottom down. So, you need to always carry it in duffel mode, always wear it on your back and not set it down on the ground or not mind dirt on your back. The second thing I already mentioned below and that is all the weight of the main compartment sitting on the laptop compartment.Though I am no expert, I've had a lot of bags over the years. The reason I got this bag was for trips where a wheeled carry on wasn't practical/efficient due to rough surface, frequent moves to other cities, etc.I have not taken this bag on a trip. However, the first thing I do to evaluate a new bag is pack it like I am going on a trip. I put my 12" Chromebook, phone charger, laptop charger and a few smaller misc. electronics in the side pockets. I used three packing cubes for the main compartment. The first had 3 pair of heavy jean-type pants. The second had 5 long sleeve men's medium/large shirts and 3 polos. The third had 5 pair of socks and underwear. I also put in a pair of boat type shoes (size 11). It all fit fine with many of the smaller pockets not used. The main compartment was pretty full-I could probably fit my toiletries which I didn't try to pack. The bag weighed a total of 18 pounds when packed with this stuff. Interesting because some international airlines allow 22 lbs total without paying and I thought I could never do it.Pros:-The bag looks great and appears to be high quality. I saw no issues with the fit/finish of the bag.-There are a lot of organization pockets. More than I thought there would be from the pictures/description. The run down is: main big zippered compartment, 2 wide side zippered pockets (each with slightly different organization inside), a zippered laptop compartment, two zippered compartments on the underside of the 2 side compartments, a fleece smaller pocket at the top of the bag, 2 zippered pockets along the bottom side of the bag.-It comes with a bunch of accessories. When I ordered, I thought I really don't need any of those, but they do seem to be pretty good quality. There is a shoe bag, laundry bag, rain cover and packing cube.-The bag felt comfortable on my back walking around in testing the bag.Cons:-The bag is not as big as a full size carry-on because of the shape. Unfortunately, if you want a maximum size bag you are going to be wearing what looks like a box on your back. This is not that, so it is aesthetics/organization vs. space.-The handles when carrying the bag as a duffle are meant to look good when wearing the bag as a backpack. They are not uncomfortable, but not the most comfortable handles. If carrying it far and not using the backpack straps, I could see it being uncomfortable.-There is no shoulder strap provided nor are there d-rings for one. You could maybe rig on to the carry handles of the bag, but I didn't try it.-Most of the compartments pull space from other compartments (mostly the main one).-The fleece lined compartment is at the bottom of the bag when setting it down as a duffle. Meaning the weight of stuff in the bag is on the pocket. I would never put sunglasses or something like that without a case in there. Maybe a watch would be okay.-The laptop compartment, when setting the bag down in duffle position is at the bottom of the bag. Meaning almost everything in the bag is weighing on it. Probably not a problem if just clothes and light stuff, but if you have heavy stuff in the bag it is sitting on top of your laptop (the compartment is padded though). I guess this can be avoided by standing the bag upright.-If you are going more than one place on a trip, packing cubes are probably best to use. The opening is not like a suitcase where you have total unfettered access to the main compartment.Overall, I'm impressed with the amount of organization the bag has and the looks of the bag. Most of the cons I think are pretty minor things.

Thoroughly Impressed
This 40L Sterkmann bag impresses in storage and packing utilization, price and overall material. Below you will find a more full length pros and cons of the bag, but overall, especially at this price point, this is a great overall travel bag in my opinion. Granted I recently got it so I haven’t taken it on a trip yet, but just looking through it and going through the different compartments, I really haven’t found too many things I would change. I’ve uploaded a bunch of pictures to showcase different aspects as well as my hand in some as to showcase sizing of spaces.Cons:- Though the overall materials of the bag seem to be very high quality, two pieces of material that are stitched parallel to the zipping are kind of a pleather material. Its basically only used as the stitching and handle, but even still I would have liked to have a higher quality material there.- Some travel bags are slightly more of a condensed shape around the sides for easier moveability under a seat, but since this is the 40L option and there are so many storage places, I guess thats what happens when you have extra space.Pros:- Though I mentioned the strange pleather material on two portions on top of the bag, I’m pretty impressed with basically all the rest of the different materials of the bag and within. The compartments are actually made of different materials that work for the types of things that may be put within them too (e.g. on top there’s a soft kind of pouch for valuables and passports).- I’m amazed this is still within the limits of a carry on with all the space.- The compartments are a big plus as there are specific spaces for a laptop, tablet, phone as well straps, larger and small compartments, etc. The planning of the spaces was pretty well thought out. Again, I haven’t traveled with this yet, but compared to other bags I’ve had in the past, this has way more compartments for things.- It’s pretty light as a bag, but seems to be durable material and it looks like the backpack straps can even be taken off.- Bag comes with four smaller bags for different purposes (laundry bag, rain cover, shoe and packing cube) as well as a small lock. The packing cube is two sided and there is a zipper in the middle that lets it unfold to get bigger and hold more clothes. I was thinking this is where a company could skimp on material, but really seems to be high quality stuff.- I like that it can be worn as a backpack and has two strap belts for support if needed. Also the handle on the opening side is nice if want to switch it up and carry that way.- At this price point, I can’t imagine a better bag. Thoroughly impressed.

Great bag!! ( just know it's capacity)
Bought this before a business trip to Italy, as I did not want to use my large suitcase, because I was scared my larger "Checked" luggage would get lost.So here's the skinny:The bag is QUALITY, looks great & functional. It was "almost" big enough....If the bag were truly rectangular, it would have been perfect for my short trip. But due to it's taper bottom to top, it came up just short of having enough space.By that I mean, it was bulging and I did not want to tear a zipper. No fault of the bag....Just could not get all my gear to fit without stressing the bag.Had it not been cold, and heavier clothing was required, I think it would do a 3-4 day trip fine.So...In my opinion, it's capacity for travel is:Big enough for 3-4 days with cold weather clothes (1 pair of shoes). And you could do 5-7 days, if it's summer clothing, w/o Jackets or pullovers.Hope this helps

Beautiful Backpack/Duffel
I was skeptical at first because there was not many reviews online (except amazon) about this bag but now that I've tried it and walk around a bit I can say it's amazing. The construction seems sturdy and made with quality materials. The lateral zippers seem a bit weaker than the main ones but only time will tell I guess. It's my first bag of this kind and I'm honestly really happy with it, I can't wait to use it in an actual trip. I'm impressed with the amount of compartments and organization options this bag can offer. If you're practical you can fit everything you need for a small trip, even a longer one if you're smart with your packing. I'd definitely recommend this bag, I believe I will use it, hopefully, for many years to come. Thanks.
