An impressive little book that delivers
I love the book! It covers everything you need to know: Cav personality, how to pick a breeder, vet visits, diseases and first aid, checklists and how-tos, house training, obedience training, grooming, traveling with your dog, plus, it includes a wealth of additional information in the back, such as websites, cav clubs, health registries, and rescue groups. Unlike another book I bought on Cavs, this one has an index, so it serves both as a book for new Cav owners and as a reference book for years to come. Bonus: lots of cute Cav pictures! I bought this book used (2008 Ed.). Although it was in good condition, I can tell the previous owner made good use of it. And so will I.

Most complete breed book (any breed) I've ever read, should be STANDARD manual given to anyone to get a puppy/dog.
Fantastic book for both owners, and people looking to get a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I have one, a 6 year old who I got a few months ago. I had done tons of research, hung out with some a few times, all that jazz and knew this was the breed for me. This book really taught me a lot that I didn't realize, really helped me understand a few of my dogs personality traits for sure. I think EVERY puppy/dog should come with this book as a manual! The book covers history of how they came to be, difference of Cavalier and the English Toy (King Charles), deep detail of their personality and why they may or may not work for you (for example they are COMPANIONS because they need to be with you 24/7), how to prepare a comfortable home for them, house training, how to train, feeding, grooming, preventative medicine and incredibly complete description of ALL their potential health hazards (and how seriously you should take each), how to help them live to a ripe old age, how to administer emergency first aid (how to put pressure on key arteries for example, different types of competitions, about therapy jobs, and a large index of rescue groups, registration, magazines, health registries, clubs, etc. This is by far the most complete breed book (of any breed) I've ever read. I did read this with my dog on my lap to share the pictures with him, but he really was not impressed with that ;)

Excellent book for a very spcial breed......
This is a very thorough & informative book for the new or prospective Cavalier owner. It has many beautiful color high def pictures of beautiful Cavaliers & the price is a steal.I have been looking for a Cavalier since January 2013 & having learnt & garnered more info on the breed I am still looking for good breeder with all the requested tests & have dealt with quite a few shady breeders so do your research or you will pay the price with the dogs health & your emotions. One thing not mentioned in the book is that Cavalier puppies are more fragile & sensitive than most small dog breeds & even if you do find a out of state breeder I would not recommend having the poor dog shipped in a crate & instead pick it up personally or buy from in state where you can meet the breeder & both Dam & Sire. Look at how humans are treated by the airlines & now imagine a 12 week old puppy being handled in a shipping crate.Cavaliers are beautiful, sensitive balls of love but they are unfortunately genetically predisposed to mitral valve disease & the dreaded Syringomelia & need human companionship or they suffer from separation anxiety & depression so please do your research for bad breeders & your commitment.

Great format! Great pictures!
My husband is NOT a book reader, and he keeps picking up this book and reading and learning! It's amazing!! We have a new puppy and my husband hasn't been a dog person. I am just super happy he is loving the puppy and this book is a nice format for my husband. I haven't read it yet, but will as soon as I get organized. Or something ....

Want a new Puppy
I enjoy watching the Dog Shows and this little dog caught my eye. I'm down-sizing from an Akita. 1) because I'm getting older and 2) I need a dog that will be great with children and less intimidating, for my grandson is afraid of dogs. So I needed a small dog to help him get over his fear. I think this breed with be great as a companion and therapy dog with my grandson (less threatening).

good for basics, not detailed on heart disease
Nice overview, but if you want this book to learn a lot of heart problems they get, don't buy this.

Good information for new dog owners
This book is helpful and easy to read. I wish it has been edited a little bit better. There are a couple of places where it says "frenchies" instead of cavaliers.

Limited information
This book was really limited and general. I couldn't even find good information on how much to feed my Cavalier.

Very informative for anyone unfamiliar with the breed
Excellent book, give lots of information on feeding/caring and the usual stuff, lots of nice pictures and some excellent tips for those unfamiliar with the breed. Seem to appeal to everyone in the house from my other half's 6 year old granddaughter who loves looking at the pictures to 20 year old daughter who will 'puppy sit' on the rare occasions we are both out so he doesn't get on his own. Even Banjo (our pup) will pick it up and take it into his basket if its been left on the floor, tho thats more to do with him being a pup and having something different to try and chew, lol.All in all, despite the book being american (prices of dogs are in $) and some american terminology, its easy to follow and understand. Great little book, informative and as usua the speedy delivery you have come to expect from amazon.

Excellent and informative
This is a lovely book gives great practical advice about all aspects of owning a cavalier and also gives great information regarding the inherited health problems within this breed. Has some gorgeous photos and without this book I would not have been so well informed of the breed and therefore not known about the testing and health checks that responsible breeders do to ensure their cavalier puppies are as healthy as can be. I have since got my own cavalier after reading up on the breed in this fabulous book.

Informative
Read this great book within a couple of days, but most of it has stuck in my head because of the colloquial language. Had a good old chuckle a few times. Very helpful book, would recommend.
