Rocky Playing to his Strengths Exceptionally, But Also Venturing into New Areas Exceedingly Well...
Under 4 years ago, the then mysterious A$AP Rocky debuted his (arguably) classic mixtape Live.Love.A$AP. Rocky’s unique mix of New-York hip-hop, southern influence, ambiance and cloud-rap instantly set him aside from anyone else in the rap scene. So when Rocky was gearing up to release his debut album, 2013’s Long.Live.A$AP, expectations were high, expectations that were not met. Sonically, Long.Live.A$AP was less original and not as brave, and lyrically, Rocky lacked depth and character. So now, more than two years later, Rocky releases his second album At. Long. Last. A$AP (A.L.L.A, for short). So the question is, can Rocky make an album that meets the standards set by Live.Love.A$AP? In short, he not only meets them, but exceeds them. From the first listen, it’s clear that Rocky has adopted the more ambient, trippy feel that made Live.Love.A$AP so great and built on it. In fact, some of the A.L.L.A’s best moments are its darkest, moodiest ones. The dark, at times eerie and spooky, songs such as “Max B”, “Canal St” and “JD” provide the perfect canvas for Rocky to be lyrically outstanding. But at the same time, what also makes A.L.L.A such a great album is its well-rounded, diverse range of songs while still remaining coherent. A.L.L.A has it’s soulful moments (“Jukebox Joints”, “Holy Ghost”), it’s chilled out, almost trippy moments (“West Side Highway”, “Fine Whine”), it’s ridiculously banging moments (“LPFJ2”, “Excuse Me”) and it’s beautifully superb moments (“L$D”). What’s great about A.L.L.A is that it never remains in one area for too long and becomes stagnant, but instead switches between moods constantly (in the case of “Max B”, “Better Things” and “Electric Body” these changes in mood even occur within the same song). But what is great about A.L.L.A is that Rocky is on point throughout. In terms of lyrics, flow, delivery, and presence, Rocky remains consistently amazing and never stumbles. But this album also benefits from its amazing production. With the majority of production being handled by Hector Delgado, Danger Mouse and Rocky himself, with contributions from the likes of Jim Jonsin, Nez & Rio, Kanye West & C.N.O.T.E, the standard of production remains high throughout. In fact the only limitation of the album is the inconsistency of quality of features. Whereas A.L.L.A features outstanding guest spots from Joe Fox, Mos Def, Lil Wayne, Future, James Fauntleroy and ScHoolboy Q, there are also some questionable guest features from Kanye West, Bun B & M.I.A. (Three people I never thought that I would consider weak features).Overall, A.L.L.A is an amazing album, and in many ways Rocky’s best work to date. It final seems that he has found his true niche and found a very weird, trippy corner of hip-hop that he can truly thrive in. Not only does A.L.L.A play to Rocky’s strengths exceptionally, but it also sees him venture into new areas exceedingly well, which to me is the best type of album. If you’re an A$AP Rocky fan then this album is without a doubt a must buy. At the same time, if you are not that clued up on A$AP Rocky then this could possibly be the best first impression you can get.

Underrated greats
ASAP Rocky and this album are both underrated greats. ASAP is always consistent with his delivery and this is his best album in my opinion. Probably a top 5 album of all time for me and L$D is one of my favourite songs ever

Anders und abwechslungsreich
At.Long.Last. A.L.L.A voll überzeugen.

Merci A$AP Rocky !!!
Note : 18/20

Genau mein Geschmack.
