* Liquid caoutchouc is a sustainable raw material, produced from collected tree sap of the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). After the tree sap is harvested, proteins are isolated and discarded, and the remaining pure rubber is poured into the molds. There are no windows in the packaging as prolonged exposure to light causes natural rubber to gradually change color. * The UMMY shield is flat, allowing the muscles of the mouth and the lips to have freedom of movement and thus encouraging muscle activity and development. The comparatively large size of the shield prevents the baby from squeezing it enough to fit into the mouth. Because of its softness, the shield will not leave marks on baby's face. * Three large ventilation apertures on the shield help prevent skin irritation caused by prolonged contact with saliva. * Since the UMMY is manufactured in one piece, there are no joints or cracks, thus minimizing the number of places for bacteria to accumulate. * The grip ring is soft and comfortable for the baby during tummy time. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE: Must be sterilized before first use by boiling for several minutes. To be washed carefully after every use under running water. Do not put in dishwasher or steam sterilizer.

Elongated Nipple Design is Great!!
I really love this pacifier. The elongated nipple design looks similar to an actual nipple right after your baby unlatches from nursing, which to me makes this pacifier make the most sense. My daughter also has Natursutten and Ecopiggy pacifiers. I cannot recommend the Ecopiggy pacifiers - I hate that they have an open space for moisture and bacteria to collect inside the bulb, and the bulb is HUGE - but Natursutten is another great brand. However, they don't offer the elongated nipple design, so I'll stick with this one, even though it's a little spendier!Update: After using these pacifiers for the better part of the last year I can feel confident addressing some of the negative reviews left. We have gone through about a dozen of these - our daughter is a master at losing them so we always have at least 4 on hand - and not a single one has had the nipple detach from the base. Additionally, these WILL get old and sticky, as will ALL natural rubber pacifiers. It's just what has to be dealt with to get the benefits of a toxin-free product. That being said, we find they only get so sticky and deflated that they are thrown about every 4-5 months, which is much longer than the 6-8 weeks regulations dictate they have to recommend.

Replacing MAM pacifier with natural pacifier!
We wanted to switch from the MAM starter pacifier to a more natural option and this is the only one my daughter would take of the natural pacifier options since I think it is the closest in shape to the MAM. Highly recommend if trying to switch over!

Well made, just not my son's favorite
I bought this for my son who is very particular about the kind of pacifier he'll take. He didn't like it as a pacifier, but continues to use it as a teething toy, especially the back loop of it. So far it has held up pretty well. If you're looking at using natural pacifiers, I'd recommend starting from the very beginning. Once your baby has found their favorite, it's hard to introduce something new.

Great substitution for MAM!
Our baby is breastfed and would only take MAM pacifiers. We live a low toxin/plastic free life as much as possible with her, but never thought about all the gross plastic and chemicals in her pacifier until she statted jamming the plastic guard into her mouth to chew in it. I was worried about switching over, but this elongated nipple design worked perfectly! She even seems to like it better than the mams, and we will now be ordering several more. I wish it wasn't so pricey, but to me, it is worth the value!

Nice item, but on the expensive side. My breast fed baby will not take any pacifiers and unfortunately even after trying for a few weeks, refused this one as well.
