Wonderful Time Saver and Organization Tool!
This product is incredible. I am a fiber artist, I spin my own yarn and sell it. This thing has become invaluable to me and my business. First off, it let's me get finished yarn off my bobbins easily and get back to spinning. Second, presentation is everything and this thing makes neat, attractive, center -pull cakes that my customers LOVE! I've had customers tell me many times that they much prefer my pre-wound and weighed cakes to other skeins. Skeins are great but this is truly the way to go. I can also use is directly off of my plying Susan, without having to transfer off of a bobbin, then weight it and subtract the weight of the cone, and make it whatever weight I need! It's so easy to use and mine winds with almost perfect tension as well, not too tight that you lose elasticity, but not too loose that it falls apart. I also love how easy these cakes are to store and how attractive they look set up on display. I've also been told that the cakes fit into and work much better in yarn bowls than skeins or other Yarn constructs. The tool itself is very well made, and all metal construction except the gear shielding and removable cone. It is very sturdy and the gears move freely. I did have to use just a touch of oil on them when I first got it and maybe after every 5 hours or so of use. They don't squeak and line up perfectly. My only complaint, is that the screw that holds the stationary guide, will dig into the table top when you clamp the winder down. There should be a sheild to prevent that from happening. I added a second washer and now the end of the wing-screw is flush with the second washer and no longer scars my tabletop.I highly highly recommend this tool to anyone who spins or handles any decent amount of yarn for whatever reason. I've wound my entire inventory and personal stash, over 50lbs of yarn, in less than 4 days, and now it takes up half as much space. You will love it, and your customers will love it! I would honestly give 6 stars if I could.

If your yarn stash needs some organization, you NEED this yarn winder
These types of yarn winders are typically very expensive. I purchased one before from an overseas vendor from that e**y auction site. The post office said it was delivered, but when I got home, it wasn't there. So when I saw this one on Amazon for a very affordable price, I got it. I have since rewound just about every partially used skein of yarn in the house. You know those popular cake-type wound yarns like Caron Cakes? That's how this winds. It makes a very neat, compact center-pull cake up to 10 oz. I was always worried about a too large center post leaving a hole in the middle of the cake. This winder does not do that. When the cake is removed from the post, the tension of the cake sucks that hole shut. BIG NOTE: You must take time to learn how to properly wind. It's not hard, but if you don't do it correctly your yarn will end up in a tangled mess in the gears. You must, Must, MUST tension the yarn with one hand while you wind with the other. It will NOT work any other way because there cannot be any slack in the yarn. What I do is unravel about about 30-50 pulls from my skein right onto the living room floor in a giant U-shape. Then I thread the winder, tension the yarn with my left hand in front of the vertical eye post and slowly begin winding clockwise with my right. Don't tension it hard, just enough to prevent slack. NEVER wind backwards. Only clockwise. If something messes up because you introduced slack, you'll be so tempted to undo it by winding backwards. I cannot stress this enough, don't do it. Just stop and straighten it out. When I wind up everything that was laying on the floor, then I make another U on the floor and do it again. Once you get the hang of it, it's addictive.

The best thing I have bought in a long time. Pleasure to use and well made. .
Sometimes you buy and item and you have certain expectations and most of the time they don’t even come close to meeting them. This is yarn winder met all my expectations and more. I have been wanting one for a while but all the reviews I read about them say they break or don’t do the job well. This one has been used a lot, like over 200 skeins of yarn and is still going strong. It takes a little to get used to by that I mean like all things the more you use it the more tricks you learn about it. You can wind the yarns as is with the tension arms that come with the winder, that will make the yarn cake spongy and soft and not hold its shape as well as store bought cakes.I have learned if I let the yarn go through my hand before it goes through the tension arms on the winder I have more control of the tension making the yarn cakes firmer and allowing more yarn to be wound on the spool. The yarn cake is then more firm like what you find in the store.I do wish it has an exchangeable spool for smaller thread/yarn like used for lace. The spool is way to big and leaves a huge whole in the center and once you take the yarn/thread of it looses its shape an collapses but this only happens on yarn/thread.I also have learned if you press on the cake once it is off the winder it compresses it into a little shorter and firmer cake vs not pressing it with my hands on a table.I’m very happy over all with the winder enjoy using it. Not only is my yarn stash well organized now and takes up less space I also get a good arm workout lol. I do find the speed also matters, the slower you go the better shape it is and the faster you go it becomes kinda messy and spongy. This winder is very solid and well made out of metal and the only plastic is the spool and handle grip. It has been used over 200 times so far and looks and works like it is brand new.It is a pleasure to use especially if the yarn is still in the skein, yarn rolled in balls is a little more unsteady today wind but that is not the winders fault.I normally do not write reviews but when you find a product that does what it says, is a pleasure to use and meets and surpasses your expectations, you have to write a review. I highly recommend it.

Verwicklungen!

Beauty Purchase
I have had a few of the small plastic style that you can purchase at most online knitting stores and I had nothing but problems with those ones...especially when the yarn would flip off the yarn cake and just wind up underneath. It was a lot of work to make sure the tension was "just perfect". Yes, it was lightweight, but they weren't very durable.I was hoping to find something a little more practical and sturdy and tried my luck with this winder. It. Is. Amazing. It's heavier and bigger than the plastic ones, but it is MUCH sturdier, makes yarn cakes twice as big, there is no yarn barf, and you can go fast without having to worry about it messing up. I love this winder and recommend it to anyone looking to buy a quality ball winder.

Consigliatissimo.

BEST YARN WINDER EVER! (Needs better assembly instructions)
Only issue I had with this product is the cogs didn't engage when I assembled it. I spoke with Amazon tech and they said to return it. When I was taking it apart to put back in the box I noticed a screw at the bottom for adjusting the cogs. If this bit of information had been in the instructions it would have been super helpful. I had previously purchased a couple of the plastic products on the market and there is no comparison...
