Courted (includes Gilt and Tarnish)
This is a review of the omnibus edition of two stories by Katherine Longshore, Courted, which includes Gilt (telling the story of some years in the life of Catherine Howard), and Tarnish (telling the story of some years in the life of Anne Boleyn). I have read and reviewed both these books as individual editions, as well as another book by the author, Brazen (which tells the story of some years of Mary Howard). These are really good historical novels, although as I have explained in my individual review, I felt that Gilt was not as good as the other two books by the author, for reasons I have outlined. Both Tarnish and Brazen allowed the reader to really get inside the heads of the main protagonist characters, and to feel empathy as well as sympathy for the life of women in Tudor times, under the rule of King Henry VIII and the Court, filled with ambitious and ruthless men (and women).I would heartily recommend the author’s works that I have read so far, to anyone looking for a good historical read of Tudor times.
