Nice Introduction
I teach ages 3-6 years old and I found this to be a very colorful and clear book to introduce Diwali to the children at my school. There is only a short phrase on each page with wonderful photographs that I feel captures the light and the beauty of the holiday.

This is a basic nonfiction book that will introduce young readers to an important Indian festival ...
A girl leaned over, smiling as she held a Diwali diya in the palm of her hand. Perhaps you’ve never heard of Diwali, but it’s an “Indian holiday” which “happens in October or November.” We all have what we consider to be very important holidays, but in India Diwali is their “most important holiday.” It’s a very special time for for families to get together and celebrate. Another name for Diwali is “called the Festival of Lights.” A diya is a tiny oil lamp with a wick in it, a wick that can be lit to throw off some light. This is a five-day holiday in which “people decorate the first two days.”Can you guess what they do during those days? If you guessed they hang up lights you’d be right. If you check out one of the pictures in this book you can easily see some beautiful lights hanging from the trees. The third day is a special time when people “gather with family” and “say special prayers.” Do you dress up on important holidays? An entire family smiles as they gather around to celebrate. The girls are beautifully dressed and look very lovely. In this book you’ll also be able to check out the fireworks, check out the yummy sweets, and you’ll learn several more interesting things about India’s most important holiday. This is a basic nonfiction book that will introduce young readers to an important Indian festival. This large print nonfiction book is prefaced by a table of contents that will set the stage for future nonfiction texts. There are numerous pictures of people celebrating the holiday, fireworks, and “sweet treats.” Each two-page spread has written text about the holiday on one side and a full-page, full color photograph on the opposite one. The layout pops with color and is a high-interest topic young readers will love. In the back of the book is an index, a “Picture Glossary” with captions, and a section on “Diwali Diyas.”Age Range: 4 to 6 yearsGrade Level: Preschool to 1BUMBA BOOKSIT‘S A HOLIDAY!:It’s Chinese New Year! It’s Christmas! It’s HalloweenIt’s Hanukkah! It’s Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr!It’s Thanksgiving! This book courtesy of the publisher.

Simple but colorful
Decent book for children, learning about holidays from around the world, but lacks depth and doesn't explain the significance of the day. Imagine a Christmas book that never mentions christ. That's what this feels like

Doesn’t explain the Why???
Good book right up until you try to figure out why anyone celebrates Diwali. I had to go on Google to answer my 7 year olds questions. Worthless.
