Almost didn’t read
Omg, I almost didn’t read this book because I had seen the movie, but I’ve read all the Bruce Cameron books except this one and the sequel, and books are generally better than the movie. This is one of the BEST books I have ever read, there’s so much; I fell in love with Bella and her drive to get home. And the ending was SO much better!!! A must read!!!

I LOVED THE STORY EVEN WHILE CRYING!
I actually watched the movie first. I loved the movie but I was looking for a new Kindle book to read and came across this one. Initially I didn't recognize the title but as soon as I read the description I remembered the movie. Both were excellent. I cried thru many parts of this story. It was beautifully written. I found some my favorite dog, Lily, in some of the mannerisms of Bella. Lily was a "failed" service dog. I never knew of such a thing when I purchased her from an animal rescue group. But the first time she sprang into action when I was undergoing cancer treatment, had no phone nearby and although we only had her 2 weeks I looked over at her and said, in desperation, Go Get Rick. She sprang into action, choose to go around to the French doors not the heavy insulated door from the kitchen to my husband's studio. She pounced on the doors until he heard the vibration over his very loud music. Then she circled him, moved forward, looked back at him until he got it and realized she brought him to the stairs which he now ran up. Lily became my service dog, she rescued me many times until the last year of her life when I gave her the same loving care as she gave me until she died in my arms from heart disease. It was such a loss to lose her. My heart still breaks thinking about her 14 years of life and how very amazing she was.

Another great book from W. Bruce Cameron
This is the third book I’ve ready by W. Bruce Cameron, and every time his stories tug at my heartstrings.A Dog’s Way Home focuses on the story of Bella, who grows up as a pup in an abandoned dwelling with cats. One day she’s rescued by Lucas, who takes her home to live with him and his mother. Lucas begins taking Bella to the VA hospital, where she becomes a companion to the patients. However, a mean animal control officer continually harasses Lucas and tries to take Bella away. This leads to Bella being sent away to a foster home until Lucas comes up with a solution. Missing her owner, Bella escapes and tries to find her way back to Lucas. The story had a little bit of everything mixed in. There are some humorous parts, but there’s also some sad ones as Bella is torn away from Lucas and she struggles to find her way home. Bella experiences many adventures on her trek home. She becomes friends with a cougar, who she refers to as Big Kitten. Their scenes were my favorites because I loved the bond the two shared; you could sense the protective nature they had on each other.Along the way, Bella also meets a few people. There’s Gavin and Taylor, who I adored. I thought their scenes added some humor as the couple adjusts to life with Bella and their other dog Dutch.Another person Bella meets is a homeless vet named Axel. Bella and Axel’s scene were sad to read because everyone was trying to help Axel, but he refused their assistance. However, Bella she always stayed by his side. I got teary-eyed reading their scenes, and the ending had me bawling like a baby. The story had adventure and suspense as Bella made her journey towards home. A few times you’re left wondering if she’d ever make it. This was a heart-tugging story about the love between dogs and humans, and the strength of their bonds.

Another W. Bruce Cameron "must have"!!
I finished reading "A Dog's Way Home" and first thing this morning was a plan to write a review.I was luckily chosen by the publisher to read an advanced copy of the book.W. Bruce Cameron's books have been my favorites, and this one is right at the top. A Dog's Purpose will always be my favorite, as it was the first "dog" book of his. But "A Dog's Way Home" is right up there. This book, as are the others, are written from the point of view of the dog. In this case, a possible Pit Bull mix, named Bella. She, as all dogs I've known or have been part of my family, does all she can to please her "person". She wants to be a "good dog", she wants to "give comfort", she wants to do all of the things that all of our pets want. And, as usual, she learns these things from her "person".However in this book, Bella, the mix pit bull, is not "welcome" in the town she lives in, in fact, she is legally banned as animal control deemed her a "pit bull", that legally can be taken by animal control and put down. Her person does all he can to keep her with him, she gets lost. She learns things from other people and other animals on her travels of trying to "go home", all things that kept her alive, as she helped others live. While lost, she gave comfort, was a good dog, and at times, knew she was doing something that her person would tell her she was a bad dog. But, it was all in the quest of "Go Home". It amazes me that Mr. Cameron can "be the dog" as he does....My little dachshund is a work in progress to being "Bella".This book is working to remove the stigma of pit bulls and other dogs that some consider "dangerous". I've always known that pit bulls can be soft and gentle. Any dog can. Any dog can be mean, angry and dangerous, if that is what their owner teaches them to be. That's the problem, some pit bulls and others were taught this. Bella was taught to be "a good dog". Not all pits or similar are mean by nature, they are taught that. It's not the dog, it's the person! For this wonderful book, if Amazon permitted 10 stars or above, that is what I would give it. An amazing book that I hope will help remove the stigma on breed specific dogs, as they are not "bad dogs", they were just not taught "LOVE".Hopeful that Mr.Cameron won't mind, a one line quote from this book that stood out to me, Bella had a thought "If a dog couldn't trust humans, how was life even possible"Keep on writing Mr. Cameron, this "person" will continue to read!

Sweet story
Bruce Cameron is the best at making dogs seem so human-like. Don't forget to read the sequel..A Dog's Courage.

A Dog's Way Home
?Having just finished reading this book, I found it a very good read, (purchased on Kindle), and although fiction, it was written in a very similar vein to those about Alfie the Cat written by Rachel Wells, and also about Molly and the Cat Cafe by Melisa Daley. Both books there written from the point of view of the cats, as is this one about a dog called Bella and her long trip home back to Lucas, her owner. You will love this story, and how many lives Bella was involved with.

Bruce Cameron has done it this time! I have read the book and watched the movie, and I still can't get enough of it! You should definitely buy this. A great family read or even an independant read.Although at some parts the book starts to dawdle a bit.

Not as good as the others in the series
If I had read this one first, I may have given it 5 stars but compared to the others, it's just isn't as good. And parts of it was sooo unbelievable. Makes for a good movie tho so maybe that's the point.
