Book Review:Although this book is 15 years old and has several introductory level chapters on general fish care, I found its description of line breeding as performed by a guppy expert useful and engaging. The non-breeding chapters I pretty much ignored.Good guppy breeding (as well as breeding of many other fish) frequently involves the process of "line breeding". Line breeding, done well, attempts to walk the line between the genetic consistency from inbreeding and the loss of robustness associated with inbreeding. A good understanding of line breeding may require either a lot of breeding experience or an understanding of several obscure aspects of genetics, but I (a fish geneticist) found it had clear "how to" statements, an explanation of principles, and tips about the best way to select guppy stock for breeding.The author's relating of his personal breeding experiences (guppy breeding that is) make this more engaging than a dry account would have been.Purchase Review:The book was in gook condition and arrived promptly.

Book came prompt,shape is rather fair for being a dinosaur :P onto the book itself,This is the second book im reading by mr. Shubel. I love his personality,and thoroughness with his findings in both. His personality is humble,and pure and it bleeds through both of his books. The information is infinitely useful,and as a new hobbyist to this,I can say I've learned a ton from these books. He is a great for guppies.

Timeless book with priceless guidance

This book is well written and the photos are crisp and clear. The author must have painstakingly kept serious notes. Follow his guidlines and your guppies will be healthy, bigger and brighter. I love reading this book.
