ECOWITT WH41 PM2.5 Air Quality Sensor Monitor Indoor Outdoor - Accessory Only, Can Not Be Used Alone

PM2.5 particle sensor works well. It communicates with the WIFI gateway and current reading can be viewed in the WSView App. It is one of the sensors in the Ecowitt Ecosystem of sensors, others are temperature and humidity, rain, wind, soil.The sensor is solar powered, with a battery backup. Its very simple to setup and start using. The packaging and product itself seem a little cheap, product seems to be targeted for the Asian market.However, the real standout in this product family is the web portal. You register to get an account, and then one can see the history of all the Ecowitt connected sensors. The data is plotted as graphs and there is no additional charge. I was very impressed by how well this work. I have a network of Nest Thermostats and temperature sensors that run my HVACs. The "Nest knows best what you need" attitude is stifling to me. I prefer the Ecowitt approach where your data is available to you to look at, understand and learn from.

It worked fine for two month and then got stuck at the same reading, contacted Ecowitt waiting to see if they replace the unit for me.

I put 4 NiMH batteries in it, and put it outside, on a beam under a deck, so it is exposed to the air and somewhat but not entirely shielded from rain. I had to screw it to the beam to keep it from blowing off, and it did survive a few falls from just over 2m. I haven't touched it for over a year, meaning not changing the batteries, and it's still sending reports. The battery report is 4/5, which I interpret as 1.2V, and rechargeable batteries are like that. I'm receiving the data with rtl_433, not the ecowitt gateway.As for accuracy, I can't really tell, but the readings make sense; it goes up when I can smell smoke from a nearby woodstove, and when there was wildfire smoke perhaps last summer (so bad that smoke alarms where going off in town). The only problem is that I see elevated readings overnight just before dawn when the humidity is super high, and I suspect that's falsing from incipient dew vs particulates.So overall, while not a lab-grade instrument (an unreasonable request for this price), it does what it says on the tin, and it's worked for over a year, where works means not only reporting PM2.5 but keeping the batteries charged.

It works ok, sometimes gives crazy readings but mostly seems ok. It says you can put it outside, but I would be careful where it is put. My first unit died in no time, I think because it was very exposed to the weather (I purposely put it in the open to get sunlight on the solar panel, but that proved to be too dangerous for it). The good thing is that I had no issues with their support/warranty, they sent me new a new right away (although it comes from China, so takes a while to get here). This new unit I placed outside in a covered area so that it isn’t too exposed. Will see if it lasts.

This is a good little sensor. It's easy to mount, it handles the Arizona sun very well, and it stays dry during downpours. The solar cells keep the batteries charged up in a sunny locale. If you get lots of clouds you'll most likely need to replace batteries at least once a year. Do plan on cleaning the unit every several months, to remove bugs that crawl into it, and remove dust from the solar cell.

I have two WH41 connected to my GW1000 Gateway in addition to several other Ecowitt sensors. We have had forest fires in a neighboring state that have worsened air quality and I needed it to decide whether to got out for a run or bike ride. One WH41 is indoors and the other one is outdoors. The outdoor one corresponds to the local environment agency readings very closely so A+ for accuracy. The indoor one helps me to decide when to turn on the air purifier.After 3 months, one of the sensors failed. Lucy in customer support was very helpful in sending out a replacement immediately so technical support is excellent from Ecowitt.

I installed and reinstalled three times and could never get the device to link to my wireless network. I worked with the tech support, but the language-barrier was horrible. The product support was only available during the daytime...in China time zones. Maybe it's a good product, but honestly, I just couldn't get it to work...plus, I am quite computer literate. I thought I'd save my money, but ended up returning the device. I bought the Davis AirLink instead and it took literally 3 minutes to install and connect to the internet. I Davis unit correlates well with the Purple Air units in my area, so I'm pleased.

Update. Ecowitt responded that the PM2.5 is sensitive to water droplets and they are looking into different sensors. I don't think the current PM2.5 is worthwhile. It might be OK for indoor air quality use. I'd look to PurpleAir if you are looking for a good particulate sensor. Kudos to Ecowitt on support.Original.Currently the PM2.5 is showing an AQI of 293. Airnow.gov says AQI is 33 and my Purple Air sensor says 42. It is wet and a bit foggy here so I think the ecowitt is "seeing" the moisture droplets as particulate. I've messaged ecowitt to see if there's any updates or other resolution.I've been using the Ambient ObserverIP for several years, it works but it requires wired LAN attachment. The ecowitt GW1000 is a very compact WIFI device so it can be placed anywhere within reach of your wifi. Setup was pretty easy, I did have to turn off my mobile data for the device to fully configure. After configuration it has been reporting without fail for the last 72 hours. It automatically picked up my old WS-0900 Ambient weather station and the six other Ambient temp/hum sensors I have installed around the home. The Android app and Website are a bit clunky, so knocking a star off until they improve the look and function there. For you weather geeks, I've have the GW1000 plugged into my DIR-505 meteobridge, it powers off the 505 USB port and is supported by meteobridge, nice.

This works really well. It matches my local air quality station quite well.
