I have been ordering these walnuts now for some time as I am trying to increase my intake of Omega-3. I always buy the larger size, which sells out frequently. The larger bag has been unavailable several times. That should tell one something about the product! On two occasions that the larger bags were unavailable ( much more economical to buy the larger) I ordered different brands. I will not mention the names, but one was FULL of shells and other debris. The other LOOKED VERY NICE, but they tasted old and stale. I have learned my lesson. If unavailable, I will wait until they are! These are the BEST raw walnuts I have ever eaten! Fresh, no shells or debris, and it is a pleasure to grab a handful to munch! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND those brand. The best I have found! I hope they never go out of business. The others I ordered were $4-$5 less in price, but that is pointless if one cannot enjoy eating them. I am happy to pay $5 more - every penny is worth it! Nice to see a truly QUALITY product on Amazon, as many products from there are of inferior quality and a waste of money.*******************************UPDATE*** I have been ordering these walnuts now for months & they have ALWAYS been fresh & delicious - EXCEPT FOR THIS LAST BATCH! Stale, old tasting, inedible and BROKEN BADLY - as if one literally scraped the bottom of the barrel! DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED, but they did not go to complete waste - I gave them to the squirrels and birds. ******If I receive another batch like this, you will lose a customer!*****I have told several people how delicious these walnuts are - may have spoken too soon!

I have purchased these walnuts several times and was satisfied with the quality except the last time. They are obviously old, black and stale about 1/2 to 3/4 of the bag was inedible and had to be put in the trash.

Great value and very fresh tasting! Love the fact that they are processed at a peanut-free facility as peanuts hurt my stomach for some odd reason.They do process other tree nuts there, though.(If you are highly allergic to peanuts, contact the company first to make sure.)

Previously these were excellent in my morning cereal or to munch on with dried fruit. I've purchased a total of eleven 2lb+ size packages of raw California walnut halves & pieces from Amazon from 3 different vendors; twice I've gotten stale un-eatable bags from different vendors (all 4.5 stars or above). I'm sure it matter of careless storage or packaging or natural events. If you click on the "Returns: Eligible for Refund or Replacement" the pop-up message states, "This item is non-returnable, but if the item arrives damaged or defective, you may request a refund or replacement." The "request" issue is troublesome. I'll return to buying mine from the bulk section of the local natural foods store (where I can sneak a taste) until a new/next harvest year.
