Poor lazy washed out graphics. This is a FPS but you are constantly required to run away and hide from invincible enemies. The plot line makes no sense.

No nonsense honest review: Great return to classic RE but a bit overhyped?
Resident Evil 7 is the long a waited sequel to RE6, soft rebooting the franchise for a new story, main character and return to classic gameplay with a modern twist. This game was hit with a huge success and I'd say a vast majority of Resident Evil fans liked it but is it over hyped? well maybe a little, Ill Explain:Gameplay: The gameplay of this resident evil plays very close to the original. It follows the idea of the first game with the whole spooky mansion vibe followed by the ship wreck and then the mines. This time we are on a bayou swamp land on the coast of Louisiana called the Baker Residence. This mansion is owned by the baker family who are the main bosses of each part of this game. The enemies are an all new enemy type and instead of a virus or Las Plagus this time its a Mold called the Molded. The molded work similar to zombies and lickers from the original games. They have claws to hit you with and some crawl on all 4s like lickers and move at greater speeds. The molded definitely look scary and remind me of regenerators from Re4 but unlike the first game this is pretty much the only enemy type aside from flying bugs in one specific area and the bosses which is a bit of a letdown since most of the other RE games features multiple enemies each game. The combat is similar to previous entries but pushes the camera to a first person perspective which is one of the more divisive changes brought in this entry. Previously we've seen 3rd person and fixed camera angles and now with first person we get to experience horror at an up-close perspective we never had in RE before. In a lot of ways I do like it and feel it fits in with this game really well but I would have loved to see fixed camera angle mode as an additional unlockable for the more hard core fans to enjoy and I don't hate first person mode but I think I still prefer the traditional 3rd person perspective in mainline RE titles. The weapons are another space that feels unique where as we have our traditional weapons we can find upgrades for like shot guns and pistols but we also have a flame thrower that we can find parts for and build. This game also has a collectible system of finding old coins that you then use to open cages in safe rooms to buy upgrades and special guns like magnums. All of this is fun and makes for good gameplay a long with the traditional puzzles and level progression.Graphics, Voice Acting and Music: The graphics in 7 are as stunning as RE5 was when It was first shown. The photo realistic areas, objects and people look some of the best I've seen in horror games all brought to life on Capcom's New RE engine. The voice acting and dialogue feels pretty much the same as it has through the entire franchise, no incredible performances here but not bad either. The music in this game is great and feels right at home with the rest of the franchise.Story/Minor Spoilers: RE7s story involves a new character Ethan who is looking for his missing wife Mia and gets a message as to her location and where abouts, he heads to this place and that's where our story picks up. Once at the manor house you meet the family who are infected with some type of mold virus and a malicious bioweapon entity. This game follows Ethan uncovering the truth and what is really going on in this manor, I don't want to say much else about the main story so to not spoil anything involving it. It's a very self contained story with the bigger story having many questions left unanswered only to be continued in the DLC and RE8. Now the story is pretty decent for an RE game and I do like Ethan but for some weird reason they decided to hide his face from everything in this game and in the next and I just don't get why. A lot of the original critiques I had with this story got fixed with the inclusion of RE8 and its connections to this game. Now speaking of the DLCs and bonus game modes, a lot of the game modes in this one are kinda random like a jigsaw card game and jacks birthday, most of it doesn't really matter and didn't catch my attention for very long. There are a few story ones that are meant to explain the night everyone got infected but honestly it just adds more continuity problems than fixing any. The 'End of Zoey' DLC was alright and more fun gameplay wise than anything and the 'Not a hero' DLC was a bit annoying to play. (Minor Chris Spoilers) I also want to mention how Chris in this game looks nothing like he does in any of the other titles before and after it, he also just referred to himself as Redfield and isn't with the BSAA in this game. A lot of people including myself thought this was maybe an imposter, clone or maybe his son or something but NOPE just regular Chris, His voice actor is pretty decent though. This DLC got delayed and eventually released for free and I almost wonder if he was meant to be someone else and this is why it was delayed but who knows. Anyways Resident Evil 7 is a great game and a fun Resident Evil and really could be considered one of the best by a lot of people. The reason I don't think its as perfect as everyone claims it to be is largely due to the last act of the game. The Ship memory and ship mission were good as atmospheric pieces to the game but in level design they are a bit clunky and annoying to traverse. This is also where the game becomes very linear in comparison to the rest especially when you reach the mines at the very end. Overall 9/10
