Used to repaint strove grates, with decent results
I've got a stove, only about 5 years old, with cast iron stove grates in black. Somehow over only those 5 years, the spot that I use most with my pans has started to show some light rust color on the black. It isn't a flakey rust more than a dry discoloration. It doesn't wash off. I got this product to cosmetically improve my stove grates.I thoroughly washed my 3 grate parts in the sink-- with dish soap degreasing, and some white vineagar; scrubbing most of the parts and letting it all soak pretty good for a few hours. I let them dry outside. I tried to do a light sanding, but honestly it didn't do much for the grates. They weren't flakey and the slight rust color didn't really come off. If anything it started to show reflective silvering and I did not feel this was going in the right direction. Overall the grates were smooth already though, and cleaned. I then put them on a flattened cardboard box, also outside. The spray paint went on smooth, as you'd expect. Wear some rubber gloves, and a resporator mask + goggles if you have them. At least a face mask. This stuff gets in the air, even if the spray seems directional. I lightly tinted the problem areas, then appleid a smooth coat all over. At first I was carefully doing the bottoms, but honestly a smooth coat across the top is fine as it blends into the natural color. This is a matte/flat black finish, don't expect any sheen. This is actually the way you want it once it is dry and indoors, so this is good, don't worry. Reapply on any missed spots and then let it dry. I let mine dry multiple hours. Read the back, it will give you the dry times. But generally 1-2, 3 hrs; for dry to touch and dry to handle, etc. Now, they are back on my stove and look good overall. There is no residual smell after a day, though I wasn't really testing that fact thoroughly before. The one minor thing I noticed which gives this a 4 star instead of 5, is that when i wipe the grates down with a cloth to clean, be it wet or dry or even just a paper towel, there is a small bit of black discoloration on the cloth. It's been multiple days since. Each time I think it's gone away, I'll see it again if I rub a grate well to get something off it. The bottoms of the pans had a small dot of this black residue on it only once, and it rinsed off with a sponge. I'm just wondering if this is going to be like that forever or what.I think I read somewhere to do a 1hr cure at 200+ degrees. That may be perfect for a grill that you can just leave running but I can't put these grates in my oven and am not sure leaving the gas stove full on for an hour is best. Unclear.

Love this paint!
I have bought and used this paint for years. I use it to touch up anything on my grill that is chipped or my fire pit or anything that is used near heat. The finish is a flat one but that is fine with me. Goes on smoothly and is very long lasting. If you need a quick fix for a heat related appliance this is it!

Excellent!
Easy to use; nice gloss. Wear a mask; the fumes are strong.
