Anna Sewell's Black Beauty (Penguin Young Readers, Level 4) Paperback – Illustrated, June 25, 2009

Great graphics, and easy read for a 9 yr old.

Wanting to introduce my second grade grand daughter to good classic literature while I was homeschooling her during the pandemic, I got this book. I had read the original as a child and remembered it was a hard read. This book concisely tells the entire story to a young reader in a way that is positive and uplifting needed for children and not one that focuses, as the original did, on the adult observation and reaction to animal abuse. The point made was that Beauty, like all of us, had to interact and endure hardship with some people, but the good people in his life loved and cared for him brought so much joy and comfort to his life. That is a point worth emphasizing to young readers in today's harsh world. Highly recommend this version.

My granddaughter loves the short version of the movie Black Beauty so I was thrilled to find this young reader for her.She just turned 5 so I have to do most of the reading but there are a lot of words she can find on her own.It is just long enough to hold her attention without her becoming distracted.This is a story that stands the test of time and I think any child will love to read it or have it read to them.

I love this book. It is a classic that all ages love to read. I am reading this book to my granddaughter, and she loves it as much as I do. I would recommend it to all ages.

Great horse story written in the horses' point of view. Reading this as an adult makes me appreciate the beautiful language and imagery even more.
