Yes, it has a tab. I have had no trouble with the lid. It keeps the tea hot too. I love it!

Yes there is a vent hole. There is one tab-you may still want to hold onto the lid. Yes there are 7 filter holes. I use tea bags.

It actually holds more than 12 ounces of water. I have a small 12 ounce mug that I always use for my tea, and this teapot gives me one and a half mugs full.

Q: Are the holes small enough to do loose leaf tea without an infuser basket?

The holes at the base of the spout are appropriately small, though loose tea would probably go through them. The holes "are not pin hole" sized like you would see on an infuser. Stephanie in Virginia Beach
