Now You're Speaking My Language: Honest Communication and Deeper Intimacy for a Stronger Marriage Paperback – January 1, 2014

Excellent read, discussing all the components of a healthy Christian marriage with reference to Biblical principles. Love Gary Chapman’s writing style, information, verses, and suggestions.

While this book is directed toward the married couple, single will benefit from reading it as well if they have any inclination of getting married. The concept of covenant marriage as opposed to the traditional contract marriage and the steps described to achieve that kings of marriage, set this book apart from the plethora of marriage mangled out there. To paraphrase JFK, seek not what your marriage can do for you, but what you can do for your marriage.

I highly recommend this book to any couple in need of improving communication. We've been married 43 years and still have issues with it. We are using this book as a couples devotional, reading each chapter, writing out our answers to the questions privately and then sharing them with each other. Mr. Chapman zeros in on the really important issues in a marriage and how to address them. Obviously, both spouses must be willing to put forth the effort necessary to improve their communication. He makes a strong suggestion in chapter 1 that you set aside 10-15 minutes every day to talk, while making eye contact, and really listen to one another as you talk about your day. Each chapter focuses on different aspects of communication such as unhealthy patterns of communication, learning the art of self-revelation, overcoming the barriers of defensiveness, and exploring the different types of intimacy. A very useful tool for learning to communicate effectively and to understand your spouse better.

Haven't made it through the book yet so I'm only rating 4 stars, however, I could see the potential for 5 stars. It has great content & when I finish reading I'm thinking I will change my mind.

This book did not disappoint. Just like the other books by Chapman, it is broken down into sections that make it easy to understand and give practical examples of how to put it into action.

Let's face it, as men we are not typically very good at communicating our feelings in the context of our romantic relationships. Yes, there are two people in every relationship but it will be an incredible act of love of your part when you reach out & take the initiative to deepen your emotional vulnerability with your partner. This book is very well written, has practical & easy to follow advice & will help you grow your relationship. Highly Recommended!

good teaching on learning to communicate better

We bought 2 copies and read it to participate in couples small group. This book was tremendously helpful in improving how my husband and I communicate with each other in our marriage and stimulated great dialogue so that we could resolve some conflicts that we weren't aware that we had until reading the book. We really liked how it uses scriptures to support the message. I highly recommend to all Christian couples.
