Electro-Harmonix Bass Soul Food Overdrive Pedal

One of the best pedals I've ever owned, this is the first pedal I've bought that I considered buying an extra/backup of. I purchased it for my bass, and it is AWESOME for that use, its quickly become a central component to the bass sound in my band. The key elements for me are two of the hallmark features of this pedal:1) the blend knob which allows me to maintain some of the clean/dry signal which helps me feel as well as hear the articulation of the individual notes as I play them2) the fact that the treble knob only affects the distorted/wet signal, again allowing my clean/dry signal to remain unadulterated.Additionally EHX is a great company with great customer service, I had an issue with my pedal after only a few months (I think something shorted out) and so I initiated a service incident and shipped off my pedal shortly before Christmas. They quoted me a 3 - 4 week turnaround time, and had it back to me in only ~2 weeks!In conclusion - if this pedal was stolen from me, I would order/buy another one as soon as humanly possible.

This is a great bass distortion pedal for not a whole lot of money. I bought this to compliment a Bass Muff Pi Deluxe, which it does a fantastic job of doing. Compared to many distortion pedals, this one falls on the much more mild end. It's capable of doing anything from a clean overdrive up to a warm crunch while still preserving a good deal of bass tone. This is definitely the warmest sounding bass distortion pedal I've used. If you want a nice mild drive, this is definitely worth the purchase.

It didn't change quit as much as I liked. However, I am aware that it depends on the type of bass, the amp settings, and the guitar settings. It gave my bass a nice, more proffessional tone. I think it was a bit too expensive for what I got but I'm not complaining. I like this bass pedal.

To be honest, I'm not even sure why they make a guitar version of the Soul Food. As far as I know, the bass version is 100% the exact same circuitry, but with a blend knob. Works great for guitar or bass. When you're using it for bass, the blend knob is great for getting a "dual-amp'd" sound. For guitar, just turn the blend all the way up and it'll function the same as the guitar version. Everything from a light/transparent boost, to a colored boost, to a full on tubescreamer sound. It's like 3 pedals in one. Plus the bass version has an internal switch to change the true bypass to a buffered bypass. Good for re-amping guitar/bass tracks in a pinch.

It's definitely not a distortion pedal. Even with the blend controll, it still loses a lot of low end if the drive is all the way up. It will keep the low end if the drive and blend is set a 12 o'clock. Then it's more like a slightly dirty clean. Good for a clean with a tiny bit of dirt boost. Only 2 stars because they market this as a distortion pedal. Still it's a ok for a clean boost, don't buy if your in the market for a overdrive or distortion pedal. Mxr bass innovation overdrive and distortion is where it's at.

This pedal is a must have for the bassist who wants great versatility in sound. It gives great punch and the sustain is solid. Loved it from the first time I used it. We play a lot of Texas blues like SRV to Hendrix to Robin Trower and I get something just right for each. Great value!

This is the only bass overdrive/distortion pedal I have ever used that has what I like . That being not to much fuzzy crap sound . I like all of its tones and features . However if I dont turn it on and off a few times before turning on my amp it makes a very painful terrible pop when engaged .
