tie dye kit
I bought this kit for our annual tie dye party that we have on Labor Day weekend every year. This dye kit doesn't come with the ash rinse like other kits that I have gotten, but works just as well without it. Just prewash your white shirts, and go for it. We got 12 shirts dyed with this kit, but they needed extra rubber bands for everyone to dye shirts at the same time. I would recommend getting your shirts damp before dying them, otherwise the dyes run like off of a ducks back. It had a harder time soaking into the material, but when you dampen them first, it soaked right into them. About six hours later, we just rinsed them in the kitchen sink with running cold water, and rung them out. They were them washed in cold water in the washing machine. How cool they turned out. My kids wore their newly dyed shirts to school the very next day! We got this kit and another kit that claimed to dye 8 shirts, and all together we only dyed maybe 16 shirts. You can never dye the amout the box intends, because most people put a lot of dyes on their shirts. This kit alone only dyed about 12 shirts, not 20 like the box says. It sure was a fun family day that we recommend for all ages above three years old. Kids need adult supervision, but they can do it themselves and love what the shirt looks like when they get it done.

Worked well
Product was easy to use and produced decent results. We had kids (age 4+) and adults use it, and it was easy to use for everyone. Clean, white cotton onesies faded somewhat when washed as directed in kit directions. Cotton muslin faded more than expected, but held the color better than onesies, and produced a good result. The first set of packets was more than enough for about 12 onesies and a large muslin swaddle blanket.Directions are thorough and easy to follow *if you have read through them all beforehand.*Better rubber bands (various sizes) and gloves would be helpful (we used others we had on hand).

fabulous, easy, vibrant colors
I got this kit for my daughter's 5th birthday party. It was a huge hit and super easy, much easier than the old dip and dye method I used to use. There was no pre-treatment, except to dampen the clothing with water first. I followed the aftercare directions and there has been no fading. Excellent and easy!

I don't love the brand
Tulip is a popular brand. Following the directions to a T.........not all of the 110 shirts I tie dyed with all of the 5th grade.......were BRIGHT. Some really faded when washed. I don't love the brand. I will not be using it again.

Stained our deck per the instructions :-/
The instructions show pictures of doing the tie-dye on an outdoor wooden deck/table, with colorful stains all over. When there are large instructional pictures, kids follow them without reading all the fine print. Our adolescent kids got nice tie-down shirts but stained our wooden deck... The stains went into the wood grain, we'll have to power wash and then stain or paint the whole deck :-/Tulip should improve the instructions, change the pictures and write in large bold text that surfaces must be protected before applying colors and/or that adult supervision is required. That should also be mentioned in stores where those products are sold to kids.

Great fun, easy to use!
Easy to use and lots of fun. Used for a b-day party with 7 year olds. Plenty of dye to use for 12-14 medium t-shirts.

Everything We Needed
I bought this kit to have something fun to do with my niece this summer. The colors were great, this system is easy to use and it came with everything we needed except shirts. We ended up tie dying some old white shirts and then cutting them up and making a quilt out of them. My niece had a blast!

More shirts than most people said, bottles helpful for little kids/large groups
I bought 2 packages to dye about 30-35 kids shirts (a few adults in there) because many reviews said it wasn't enough. We had everyone focus on adding color to a white shirt, not changing the white shirt completely to another color. It lasted far beyond and we had a lot let over. You definitely need more rubber bands and gloves if you're doing this at a party.Great for parties or large groups because the bottles really help keep the mess down (I couldn't even imagine using the bucket method for tie-dying). However, I would say, everyone needs aprons or old clothes they don't care about. AND you definitely should still do it outside. We pre-treated with soda ash, but I have no idea that helped or not.
