Solid and Reliable
I received this on a Saturday and used it for rehearsal on Sunday. The stand is sturdy and well built. It looks just like the picture. It is hefty; not as light as I thought it would be. But I'd rather have sturdy and a bit heavier than light and flimsy. Another reviewer mentioned that the braces for the tripod do not go down horizontal like in the picture, but they can get close to that IF you want it. The more you spread out the tripod legs, the more the braces become horizontal. Personally I rarely have the tripod open completely on any music stand or this laptop stand. I vary the amount according to the amount of room I have to set up when planing while ensuring I have good stability. The mechanism to tilt the laptop surface is two toothed gears that engage each other and are held together with a thumb screw. Very solid. The surface of the laptop stand where the laptop sits is covered in a rubberized material that prevents the laptop from sliding. The arms for holding the laptop in place are adjustable and remind me of allen wrenches for those of you who know what those tools are. They are L shaped bars with rubber tips that you can adjust their position. They can be moved in and out, angled to the left or right etc. The bottom two are great for keeping the laptop from sliding down and off. The two at the back are less helpful. Being as a laptop has a lid/screen that must remain up while in use, those two bars in the back don't really grip anything. And with the stand tilted down towards me, there is no chance its going to slide UP the stand. So I moved these bars to the sides. But as one reviewer noted, with these on the side, they don't open wide enough to have one on each side of my 15" MacBook Pro. So on the right side, I have one of the bars against the laptop and on the left side, I keep the bar pointed DOWN. Then I use a small bungie or very sturdy elastic and stretch it from the left bar, across the top of the laptop and hook it on the right bar. It's not really necessary but its a way to have extra protection. The mouse pad tray IS small. Using my laptop's track pad, I don't need a mouse so for me it's a non-issue. But I'm guessing its about 5" x5". (I can't measure it at the moment as I left it at our rehearsal site). Also, I do not see any way to use the mouse pad tray on either side. One reviewer mentioned you have to unscrew it to move it left/right. I was going to just get rid of it, but it is riveted on and cannot be removed.I'm going over each piece with some criticism, but that is only to give everyone a good description of what you are getting with this unit. I'm VERY happy with it. It is solid, hefty, holds the laptop well and I do not feel it is in danger of falling over. It extends up to approximately 46" so it is plenty high since I play standing up. I will be putting to very good use.

I was skeptical at first. Now I am SOLD (and I have sold a few). SCRIPT SUPERVISORS TAKE NOTE
It's pretty close to impossible to shop for a laptop stand without seeing it in person and trying it out so this was quite the leap of faith. More so because it was last minute and, for me, it was to serve double duty with the *secondary* function being a laptop stand. I work as a script supervisor for films and it's okay that nobody knows what that is because we scriptys prefer it that way (blame the director!) I usually have a small table to hold up my double three ring binder plus my closing clipboard thingy (whatever you call those things) all containing a quantity of paper that starts out weighing maybe a pound and ends up feeling as if it weighs fifty. I had a location shoot coming up that was in a very rural and rough location and wouldn't allow for me to have a table and would also require me to pretty much run around chasing the director so I needed something portable. In years past, I would just haul the notebook and deal but I recently broke my collarbone and had surgery so holding up the notebook for 12-14 hours at a stretch isn't an option. I gambled on this and I won. This little contraption was a brilliant find! I had concerns about the width of it being able to support my double three ring binder but the hex-key nubbin thingers extended out perfectly to both support it as well as keep the binders from over-opening and spilling papers out. It's heavy enough so that it's difficult for even the newest of the PAs to knock over but not so heavy that it's a P.I.T.A. to pick up and move quickly from place to place. You can even sandbag it if needed but I never found it necessary. If you're a scripty and you're looking for a small stand for a shoot this is definitely the way to go.I've used it at home and in the hotel for my laptop as well as my tablet and it works beautifully for both - I just never tried it out for that on set since a swamp is no place for a laptop. They lock in perfectly securely and there is no slipping or sliding. The stand tilts to where you need it and it never felt like it was going to tip over. There are complaints about the mouse tray but I don't understand what the issue is unless the folks complaining are either using massive sized mouses (mice?) or using sweeping, arcing gestures to move the mouse around. Mostly, though, I used it as a Mountain Dew and cigarette pack/lighter holder.Added bonus - it survived torrential downpours on more than one occasion without any evidence of it having happened. Too bad I can't say the same for my paperwork.
