Difficult but a must.
Even reading a guide of a specialist like Guyer’s, Kant persists to be difficult. But when someone interested in history, like me, understands Kant, even in the general sense, all the subjects of the 18 and 19 centuries will become much interesting.

The two editions are the same.
Was the same as the second edition that I already have.

Outstanding survey and critique of Kant's corpus
Kant is difficult for many to read (at least for me) and he wrote many tomes over his long life. What makes Guyer's book outstanding is that he provides a very holistic treatment of Kant's thought, chronologically--book by book--and connects them in a very satisfying way. He is sympathetic to Kant, but he is not shy about pointing out shortcomings and inconsistencies. He writes very well. His extensive scholarly knowledge does not impair its clarity and readability. After reading this book, you will appreciate what a genius Kant was, and how humane his message, which continues to resonate today. If you want to know why humans are drawn to conspiracy theories, delusions and other "over-reaches" of the rational mind, Kant helps a lot. Kant's thoughts on morality are profound. I highly recommend this book!
