Nice tiny speaker below TV
We searched far and wide for a speaker that would work for a center channel below our MantelMount pulldown TV mount. The MantelMount allows us to pull the TV over the fireplace down roughly 18” to keep from breaking our necks watching the too-high TV. The trick is, because our mantel is deep and the TV is mounted fairly low, so we were limited to a max size of just a few inches tall.We went with the Minx Min 12 because it would fit, and because the mounting hardware on the back would allow me to bolt the speaker under the TV on the bottom of the MantelMount.Honestly, I was not expecting much, considering the size. I’ve had tiny speakers before, and have not been impressed, but I spent a good bit more on this, in hopes I would be surprised.Surprised, I was! The Min 12 does a very nice job of rendering music and voices as my center channel. It’s actually VERY impressive in sound quality. The sound is very smooth, accurate, and detailed. Is it as good as my 2-way 3-driver bookshelf speakers? Above a few hundred hertz, yes! Is it better than the TV speakers? Only about 500 times better! Would I consider replacing my 20x6x12” 2x6”+tweeter bookshelf speakers with these? NO... but the Mins sound good enough that I might consider replacing my big, old bookshelf speakers with the Min’s big brothers from Cambridge. If you need nice sound (not much bass, obviously) in tight confines, look no further. These little guys play clear, smooth, and loud in my 20x36 great room, and make me want to listen to other things from Cambridge.

Very even sound distribution but connectors could improve, updated
I used this amazing speaker Cambridge Audio Minx Min 11 and later Minx Min 12 in testing setup on production floor. Total about 10 units. I liked 11 and 12 models very much because it was the only speaker that produced very uniform, even sound at the distance of 2 inches, which was needed on our benches. No other speaker could be even close for our specific need. It is a really clever and excellent design. There is also a weakness. We lost a few speakers due to connectors that can rotate inside of speaker and loose connection. Yes. This is design issue, not defective part. Such clever and superior product has a built in problem that reduces reliability to large degree. As I write this, I have 4 speakers no longer working, and connectors rotate with no stop point. We also had some speakers develop no connection that was restored by removing speaker cable and put it back. Likely a problem was due to insufficient force on tightening screw - again, you can't tighten it because entire connector starts rotating. This problem requires redesign of connectors inside. For that reason such excellent otherwise product 4 stars instead of 5. As I write this review, I noticed price went up from $75 in Jan 22 to $100 presently., Aug 2022.Updated Sep 1, 2022. I learned that rotating connector is just Banana Plug that rotates on speaker back panel. No proof that connecting hardware failed in defective speakers. It equally could be blown coil. Which is also troubling as speakers did not experience any abuse. All work with fixed signal, white noise at a moderate level of a 1W to 2W, well below expected handling level. And power on clicks from single output amplifiers are really low on our benches. It is a cosmic joke to advertise "recommended amplifier power 25-200W" instead of Nominal Power or Max Power or Peak Power - for a small speaker, knowing many users will work near speaker limits. 200W amplifier will send speaker flying in thick smoke cloud if speaker coil is not burned immediately. So I correct here my earlier statements, regarding connections problem, while lower than expected reliability claim remains.

Small and Impressive
I bought these along with their larger sibling Minx Min 22's and an X301 subwoofer. They replaced an older Bose Lifestyle system, and fit my desire to maintain a small footprint. The Min 12's were the last portion of my purchase, mainly because I wasn't sure how much trouble I wanted to cause with mounting. The dedicated Cambridge wall mounts are much smaller than the Bose UB-20's, and I hated the idea of wall patching and repainting. In the end, I drilled out the UB-20's to accept a long 6 mm screw, added a few spacers and mounted the speakers upside down (there's no top or bottom to them, so it doesn't matter).I'm glad I bought these. I have the crossovers for front and rear set at 180 Hz and I'm hearing things that were missing previously. The build quality is excellent, and the sound is great. Don't let the size fool you.

Best of the best satellites for the proper use.
Beautiful sound. Perfect crossover point. Small but the best I have ever heard. Cambridge make awesome high-quality stuff including amps.Still using my Logitech Z-2300 (2004 and the best 2.1 PC speaker system ever made) in 2019. But, I have gone through a LOT of satellites before finding the one that sounded superb and could take the full power every day. The best and perfect sats for me were the Cambridge Minx Min 12 Satellite Bookshelf Speakers. Acoustic suspension baffles. About 3" square, 25-200W and $75 ea. They are awesome!!! Before finding them, I went through: Classic Take 2, Polk TL-1, TL-2- and TL-3s. They all burned up in short order, wide open vol. Looking back, I believe the Z did not have enough power to drive them. They were all 2-ways and sounded very good but the mids burned out and one crossover. I replaced parts in them for a long time. Now, these Cambridge units are my hearts desire. Beautiful match. They sound perfect at full volume, 40W RMS/channel. The powered sub contains all controls and amps. They are THX certified, not for the faint of heart. The sub gets 120W RMS and all use class A/B amps.Wish I had found these Cambridge sats long ago. They are wonderful!
