While this is an ingenious device, it simply doesn't stand up to repeated household usage. After 7 months it had broken twice, the last time irreparably, and although I tried to contact the seller for a refund or replacement, I got no response. Interestingly, we bought this to replace an identical one we'd gotten in Europe, and it too had broken in exactly the same place this one did, so there is an obvious design weakness. This isn't an inexpensive corkscrew, and while it is very ingenious and works well when it isn't broken, I paid $69 for this and you could buy 10 cheaper corkscrews for the price of this one. If you want an expensive novelty item that you only use when you have guests over for dinner, then this corkscrew is for you. If you want a corkscrew that will last under regular daily household usage, don't buy this one.

Great quality item and a fun corkscrew to have to challenge your friends how to use it! I bought my first one in France about 10 years ago and this is the third I have bought for gifts since. Oh and by the way the 20 year old original still looks and works like new.

Great item, yet you have to know how to use it or you will break it.
