High-value EDC option.
The CC-2 Rescue is my favorite knife of the Byrd line. Heavy-duty sheep-foot blade design retains its full spine thickness all the way to the tip. Hollow-ground serrated edge is razor sharp out of the box. Action is smooth, lockup is solid. Both can be adjusted to the operator's preference with pivot and lock-bar screws. Lightweight FRN handles provide excellent grip and control of the cutting edge. With a bit of practice, easily deploys into hammer or reverse hammer grips, by wrist flick only, without touching thumb to blade. The thumb-hole opens even more deployment possibilities. The CC-2 Rescue is rugged, light weight, heavy duty, low-maintenance, sharp and dependable. For those who can handle the size, it is an excellent EDC choice. For those who prefer a more compact EDC option, a smaller Meadowlark-sized Rescue model is also available. Many people say the Byrd makes good knives for the money. I reject that insulting disclaimer. These knives are not designed to be worn as jewelry with your tuxedo. They are intended to be used, day in and day out. Within that context, they are excellent performers, regardless the cost.

I keep this on my firefighter bunker pants! It's great!
I bought this knife to keep on my firefighter bunker pants. I have a Spyderco Paramilitary 2 knife that I used as an every day carry and I knew Spyderco had excellent quality so it wasn't a hard decision to buy this knife. The blunt tip is perfect for cutting off a patients clothing without worrying about stabbing them. The blade is mostly serrated but has a straight blade towards the tip of the blade that is incredibly sharp. It's basically a straight razor.I've used this at many structure fires to cut rope and other things and it slices through them like butter. I can't tell you in words how sharp this knife is.To you squeeze the closed handle a glass breaker pops out of the bottom which is not only cool, but very functional too! I haven't had to use it yet but I can assure you it would do the trick just fine. This knife is very easy to hold and operate with gloved hands, and there is a metal part that protrudes when the blade is closed that makes opening the knife very simple. The blade locks very strongly and will never accidentally shut due to the locking mechanism To close the knife you simply press in the silver button on the side of the handle and close the blade. This knife is fantastic, sharp and very durable. It would make a great choice for any first responder!

Serrated sheepfoot blade and shackle key
For those talking smack about quality, spend more cash on a Spyderco or get a quality rigging knife. I found a ridiculously big rigging knife for under $20 that eclipses this knife in both size and function. Smaller rigging knives can be found at a lower price. This knife is a rescue knife which means the functions include cutting with a serrated knife and a shackle key for an O2 tank. The comet shaped hole on the knife fits a small shackle. The inside curve of the blade cut out provides extra leverage for turning and is (obviously) reversible for the other direction by turning the knife over. For use on a crashed vehicle, I recommend getting a marlinspike for use as a glass breaker and for punching release buttons before sawing through a strap. A marlinspike makes an excellent dagger for self-defense. Some tactical daggers only operate in the reverse grip downward stab motion and costs 6x too much for such a specialized function. Fancy prison shivs are cool but are not worth wasting over $20 on. I don't recommend this knife for boating or anything that involves water. Get a rigging knife for that.

EMS/Fire tools for dedicated USE... not just for show....
I love this thing (even though I have not really used it yet)... Let me explain, 1st. My Son is a Spyderco FREAK.. this gets him off of my back when I buy anything except a Spyderco. 2nd., I'm a volunteer EMR w/ SAC FIRE CERT and was lookin' for a good (and safe) EMS knife and this really fits the bill. Light weight, but sturdy and heck-a-sharp (takes to a strop like a duck to water). FYI.... Spyderco.... loose the whistle. It's a bad joke.....3rd., What use this thing HAS seen has shown to me that this is a quality knife and was designed SPECIFICALLY for the purpose it was intended for. This wasn't an "after-thought"... this was made for EMS and rescue/fire personnel and it shows. I have a set of Leatherman Raptor Trauma shears.... they're the tank of EMS shears... Ditto for them as well. Quality merchandise for quality professionals (and amateurs too....).Get this knife, you won't be sorry (even if your not a medical person... it a 'safer' knife that WORKS)UPDATE: I have used this and I love it so much I bought the Rescue 79 and 93 as well... I'm a confirmed Spyderco FREAK now as well as my Son... took me awhile, but I see the light now.
