SEIKOMen's SNKK71 5 Stainless Steel Black Dial Watch

Reliable mechanical watch
This watch contains the 21J 7s26B movement; other reviewers may decry its lack of hacking and handwinding, but I have found it to be solid and dependable. My watch gains ~11 seconds a day, which is very good for a watch costing less than a hundred dollars. Overall I have found this watch to both look good and function well. I especially like the straight-sided lugs and applied indices. The combination of brushed and polished surfaces on the case (very common on Seiko watches) looked a bit strange at first but I have grown to like it. The indices, hands, and the bezel around the date window are VERY reflective. The indices especially, which are peaked and have two facets on top (three for the twelve o'clock index) catch the light very well even in darkened rooms, making it easy to tell the time even without the lume. The watch has lume on the hour and minute hands, and a dot on the outside of every index. The lume, when charged fully, is quite bright, but doesn't hold its charge for very long. I'd rate the lume generally bad, especially compared to the average dive watch, but as a dressier watch the lume isn't as big a consideration.I picked this version of the watch specifically because neither the second hand nor the day/date were red; I was only mostly correct. The date is never red (white text), and the text for most days is also white, but the text for Sunday is in red. However, in general this meets my requirements of not having red on the dial. The brand name, the shield with the "5", and the indices are all applied, which makes for a consistent look. The only thing printed on the dial is the "Automatic 21 Jewels" and the small movement model number near the very bottom. On some other Seiko 5's the dial looks a bit strange as the brand/shield are applied but the indices are printed, but this model does not have that problem.I cannot comment much on the bracelet, as I never used it. When I received the watch I placed it on an 18mm black leather alligator strap and I enjoy the look more than I did on the bracelet. The bracelet I received had folded links and flimsy facade endlinks, and used seiko's pin/collar method for removing links. It was also rather thin for a bracelet, as this watch has 18mm lugs. The watch is overall smaller than average, having ~36mm case diameter without the crown and 18mm lugs. The general trend has been towards larger case sizes, and I would perhaps have preferred as lightly larger case (~38mm). The 18mm lugs are the worst thing about the watch. 20mm lugs would have been much better, as I find 18mm straps to be extremely thin. However, proportionally I think the watch has a good look and is definitely a good value for the price.

Great Value, Great Looks, Good for small wrists.
This watch looks really nice. It's not too bulky but not wimpy looking either. The band is really nice and doesn't feel cheap or weak. It's comfortable too. The face is classy looking and the paint lights up really nicely at night. The movement is really cool. You can see the pendulum on the backside swing back and forth, winding the spring. The second hand ticks along at about 6 ticks per second so it's pretty smooth looking. It's very easy to set everything on the watch, and you can sort of manipulate the second hand despite not having a hack to set the watch very precisely.I have very small wrists and this watch looks proportionally correct.I took out 4 links myself, which was easy to do, and the watch fits great. It's hard to find good men's watches that don't look too large when you have the wrists of an 11 year old Vietnamese girl. If you've got enormous kill-a-dude arms then you should get a larger watch. If you have small wrists then you should consider this watch. This is a really nice watch, you're getting a real automatic watch made by a good brand for dirt cheap. You really can't go wrong with this.

Excellent quality, good value.
For less than $100, this watch represents the art of watch making. The quality of this watch is equivalent to or better than some of the moreexpensive Swiss watches. It is solid, good looking and will certainly last for many years to come. The only problem with this watch is its luminescent hands, which are close to useless. The brightless lasts only for a few minutes. Otherwise, it is a 5 star product.

Great first automatic watch!
I've been wanting to try out automatic watches for a while: there's so much history here! One thing that held me back from getting one however wasn't the price, it was the worry that the inherent inaccuracy (+/- 2-15sec/day) in a mechanical watch might be off-putting to me. So, I decided to start small: go with the best "starter" automatic, the Seiko 5 7S26 movement. The first one I tried (a white SNK789) died on me within an hour out of the box - wouldn't wind or hold a "charge" no matter how much I shook it. Great start, right? Convinced (okay, hoping) that I'd just gotten a lemon, I looked online here at Amazon and found this black SNKK71 which said that, if I ordered in four minutes time, I could get it the same day.So I ordered it, and Thursday night it arrived. Gotta say, it's a great little watch. I immediately slapped on the Strapsco band I'd purchased previously, set the time, then went to see a movie; wore it all night, then yesterday synced it to my iPhone and kept track. It keeps REALLY good time: in twelve hours yesterday, it was just under two seconds off, but when I woke up it was somehow perfectly on time again. I did have a very weird jump yesterday where it gained almost 30 seconds in a short time span, but by the end of the night it had settled itself back to regular time.I apologize that I didn't take any pictures before I changed the bands, but you can see those online if you Google the watch. The stock stainless bracelet was pretty standard, with solid end links and pretty comfortable. I'm really digging this leather NATO strap by Strapsco, the dark brown goes well with the black-stainless watch. The lume (glowing hands and numbers) works well, although I wish the dots around the hours was larger so I could see them more at night. All in all a great introduction to automatics! Now to start saving up for that SARG035 I'm covetting. :D
