OIL Painting Restoration Kit

I liked the first product (white cleaner). It smells quite strong, so you’ll want to use it in a well ventilated area. Wear gloves. The second product (the oil) went on nicely, but after wiping it down the painting is still too oily. I’ll have to use another cloth and gently work to get the oil off. It did help accentuate the colors. Overall, would buy again and happy with the results.

My mother had a very old oil painting that her parents had purchased in an antique shop. My mother was going to throw the painting out because it was so dark that no details were visible. I used this kit as instructed over several sessions to get rid of the dirt and years of darkening. Now my mother is displaying her painting in a place of pride.

works well as long as the varnish is too thick. Dissolves thin varnish well but didn't touch really thick varnish. Cleans well.

This kit is amazing, although I got a little confused on the directions. The jar of Kotton Kleanser says one thing and the bottle of Restoring Oil says another. I used this on an antique painted Asian cabinet, and it worked beautifully. If I now understand the directions correctly, you use the Restoring Oil in the bottle first, dab it off, then apply the Regular Kotton Kleanser. When the dirt breaks up, you dab it off, then apply another coat of Restoring Oil. Let that sit for a while, if not indefinitely. Because it was furniture, it felt a bit oily to me and I dabbed off the excess the next day. It's been about a week, and I may do another light coat of oil. You guys- this stuff really works! My mom has a nineteenth century Danish oil painting that was painted by one of her ancestors. It hung over the fireplace while she was growing up, and by the time she pulled it out of her parents’ storage years later, it was filthy and covered in scratches. Knowing I had a little bit of painting ability, she gave it to me and begged me to fix it. I was really intimidated by this request, but it meant so much to her, so I began researching and came across this product. It arrived quickly, and sat in the box for days before I was brave enough to open it. I followed the directions carefully, and used an old towel to gently blot off the dirt. At first I wasn’t sure if it was working or not- you have to carefully apply and work the cleaning solution until you see it change from white to dirty. That’s when you put the restoring oil on to rinse and revive it. As you can see from the photos, it definitely lifted that dirt! I had the painting clean in an hour or so, and am currently in the process of touching up the scratches. The painting looks so much more colorful and vibrant now! The only warning I have is that this cleaner is capable of removing light varnish. I did not notice any color lifting off of the canvas as I worked, but there were a few spots where I had to touch up faded paint afterwards. Whether or not that is due to the cleaning solution or just to the age of the painting, I do not know, but if you’re not comfortable making a few touch ups on your own, you may consider having your painting cleaned by a professional who is.I am so excited to be able to give this restored painting back to Mom for Christmas!

I used this product on a 19th century painting. It did a fantastic job. Then I applied it to a corner of a contemporary painting and it lifted the paint right off the canvas.

I tried other products which had very little results. This stuff worked immediately! I got better results than I expected maybe because I had such little results with other products. Buy it it’s great.
