Works well
The Grigri 2 performs how it claims to. Learning to use the device is simple and intuitive, while the device itsef is sturdy, mostly. The way the device handles friction is such that a very, very large amount of the work on the belayer is unloaded onto the Grigri instead. With that said, pulling slack from the lead is much more tiresome than traditional belay devices due to this friction. However, the effort of this is offset by the ease at which the lead climber is allowed to descend via the very sensitive handle on the device. My only concern is the lifetime of the device and especially the plastic handle. Good buy, but it should be closer to $70. Patents are to blame for that.

Great for beginners i bought a second one
Wanted to feel safer, i think I will with two. Wanted to get a zig zag but this was a third the price. Put 6 mil rope through it because I'm impatient and wanted to try it, it works fine, but it eats into the rope a little. Got my 10mil in today climbed 3 trees to get used to it. Never felt unsafe. No rope bite on proper rope.

Petzl what more do you need
This item is my go to for work everyday. It is easy to load the rope into and even easier to use. I work on ropes almost everyday, so this is always on my harness. I've used many Grigri's before and even a couple Rigs but always come back to the Grigri 2.

High Quality and Safe
Great device. A Petzl Verso ATC May be easier to use for some beginners but this is a greatand very safe device to use for both solo abseiling and partner belaying with an active locking system and a sturdy design

Some other items on the market would've been a better choice for my purpose
My first belay device of this type. It worked ok for the lifting task I got it for. Some other items on the market would've been a better choice for my purpose, but the price was fair for this, by comparison. This likely works much better for it's intended purpose. I was saving money for this project, but it did help on the lowering side.

Just get it!
Amazing!! By far my most favorite belay device of choice. It is number one for safety as well. I started off with ATC's and switched to Grigri's and what an amazing device! I love this model as well because I have used both the original grigri and the grigri 2 now, this one is much lighter which makes it extremely convenient for those climb/camping trips. The instructions and visuals diagrams they give you depict every scenario in which you would need to know what to do. I almost bought a cinch to save some money, but this is worth it!

Unmatched design
I love this belay device. One of the only good easy to use, and reliable ones out there. The design allows for easy use by the belayer. A little expensive. However you pay for what you get.

Love it, just don't let it make you lazy.
Smooth and perfect. Just make sure you thread it correctly and do your tug test. A guy I climb with doesn't like them because it "makes for lazy belayers," so just don't be a lazy belayer. Even though the device is foolproof when used correctly, your climbers life is in your hands!
