I have 19 of these bookshelves: they are awesome
I'm writing this review because I was baffled to see there were any negative reviews of this bookshelf. I have been buying Stony Edge shelves since back in 2019. They have survived 2 moves in great shape. I have 19 of them (I just bought 3 more), mostly the narrow 16-inch ones because you get just as much storage from 2 narrow ones as 1 wide one, and the narrow ones make it easier to rearrange the shelves in your home. They are lovely to look at, and I have never had any damage whatsoever in delivery; they are packed very carefully.Yes, there is one shelf you have to add, and that's because I suppose it is more stable for the packaging to ship that way. Yes, you need a screwdriver. But it's easy: I have no talent for assembling things, yet it takes me just a couple of minutes to install the top shelf.I load them with plenty of heavy books, and I've never had any problem. I do use little plastic furniture wedges under the bottom to stabilize them against my walls. I don't screw them into the walls although they come with the braces and screws if you want/need to do that.I now have no wallspace left for more bookcases, but if I find 16 inches of wall space somehow somewhere, I'll be buying another one of these. So glad that they have been available over the years so that I can keep buying the same brand; the quality is the same now as it was back in 2019.

Solid n sturdy
Great quality solid wood. Nice finish. Only had to install the top shelf. All other shelves fold down. But now it's totally foldable. I needed a solid n srurdy shelf for a tight space. We'll work it!

Still requires some assembly despite being called "no assembly"
What is there to not love about this? Simply unpackage it, fold out the sides, and fold down the shelves. Perfect for small nooks and wonderfully sturdy. Will definitely purchase another one in the near future! They send out a follow up email thanking you for buying their product and encourage any feedback as a response to it to help improve their services. Absolutely in love.[EDIT 03/07/17] So I purchased a third one of these (because I have a need to be surrounded by wonderfully overstuffed bookcases full of books and journals and odds and ends), and I have deducted a star from my previous five star review because though it advertises and prides itself in not needing assembly, that is false. It does need assembly. You have to assemble the top shelf to the rest of the bookcase. The prior two I bought everything was assembled and screwed on and just needed to be unfolded. This is not the case with the model I was sent. How can something be advertised as "no assembly required" when you need a screwdriver and screws for a shelf? That count as assembly in my book. I don't know why they made this change, but you can't call something "no assembly" or "assembly free" if you still have to screw things on.It's still an excellent product, very sturdy and convenient, but I think they need to change it to "light assembly folding bookcase" for the title.

Super-sturdy, and looks nice - would be 4.5 stars, but Amazon doesn't allow half-stars
The key selling point for this for me was the 150 lbs. per shelf weight capacity (I bought the 32" model). My book collection is mostly drawing instruction books, art collection books, photo reference books, etc. - large books with lots of pictures (which are printed on heavier paper than plain text). My heaviest series of books is 4 lbs. per book, and I currently own seven. That's 28 lbs. for a group of books that only takes up a fraction of a single shelf. I'd made the mistake of buying a cheap particle board bookcase some years ago, and the shelves bowed over time, and I knew didn't want to make the same mistake again.Overall, this is a great bookshelf. The natural finish and open-frame style looks lovely. And even as I was assembling it, I could tell it FELT significantly sturdier than my other set of shelves. I seriously doubt there will be any shelf bowing. There is also hardware included to let you affix it to the wall, but since there are no kids, pets, or earthquakes here, I opted not to do so.That said, I do have one slight complaint: namely, the assembly. Assembly SHOULD HAVE BEEN a snap in theory, but wasn't quite. Unfolding it was easy-peasy. The problem arose when I was installing the one shelf that required actual installation. There were pre-made spots where you were supposed to put screws in, but the holes on one side of the shelf were a smidgen too far over, and didn't quite line up with the holes in the metal hardware I was screwing onto it. I worked around this by taking the shelf off, pre-screwing the screws in and then taking them out again, then reinstalling the shelf while applying pressure to try to align the holes better. Pre-screwing helped me get the screws in straight, but the whole process took significantly more effort than it ought to have. However, this was a) probably a slight manufacturing defect and unlikely to be a problem with every unit and b) able to be worked around. So not too big of a deal, in the end.
