Well known, and used by ancient apothecaries, St. John?s Wort enjoyed rigorous use through the middle ages right up until the middle of the 20th century.

21 years of mild-moderate soul-sucking depression...finally some actual hope...
I've been drinking this tea (2-3 cups a day) for a week. I started feeling different in just one or two days. Not weird different, not a this-isn't-me kind of different, but different like I suddenly noticed my smiles were genuine, I was laughing easier (not inappropriate laughter, just EASY laughter, genuine, the kind of laughter I haven't felt come out of myself since sporadic moments of care-free joy when I was a kid). I almost cried in those first couple of days just from being so happy about smiling and laughing like that and actually FEELING the smiles and laughter for myself, not just doing it to put on a show.I know that diet and lifestyle habits play a major role in keeping brain chemistry balanced, but my instinct is telling me that with the aid of StJW right now, I'll be able to see and feel clearly enough to be able to energetically, calmly, focusedly, curiously explore and work with the deeper issues in me that start the depressive cycles going that impede my ability to maintain a health-promoting lifestyle. I do not intend to drink StJW for the rest of my life (unless I slip and need help coming back to the surface); I plan to use it as a teaching/learning aid. I will use it to keep my vision clear so I can read the signs I need to read, then when I've learned what I need to learn so I can help myself, I can taper off the herb. It's been around 21 (out of 28) years of me being, to varying degrees, in the pit. I am simply grateful for discovering this little weed; and excited to be able to get some real work done with myself and my life.

Very Helpful Part of Our Regimen
I've been taking St. John's Wort for years. It works well. So, incorporating the tea in the family-size pitcher of iced tea has given us health benefits.

Tastes really bad.
I have tried, tired, but cannot drink this tea anymore. The taste is just dreadful: even some honey doesn't help. This is heading for the garbage.
