A SUPERLATIVE INTRODUCTION INTO THE WORLD OF PHOTOMICROGRAPHY...
The Swift 1.3 Megapixel Digital Camera for Microscopes was purchased during April of 2021 for the price of $39.99 plus tax. It is now available for the price of $48.99 plus tax (December 2, 2024).After having done quite a bit of research concerning introductory equipment required for an introduction into capturing photographic images through a microscope, I identified this offering as being one of the best available from an investment perspective. Most people wouldn't wish to make too much of an investment without knowing the fundamentals as this endeavor becomes quite expensive as the quality of the images desired becomes more technologically demanding.Nonetheless, for those who are just beginning to explore the world of photomicrography, this is an excellent introduction because of the software provided with the actual ocular camera. Although the actual microscopic imaging is still controlled via the microscope itself, all photo imaging features are controlled through the use of the softward loaded onto an IT device. The software has features that permit still as well as video capture. Although the advanced techniques of photomicrography requires many more ancillary components, and a higher resolution camera, this product will allow a thorough investigation into the techniques essential to the production of breathtakingly beautiful and scientifically interesting images. As I increase my knowledge of photomicrography, I will purchase more advanced technology from SWIFT and make gifts of the tech that no longer present a challenge to my knowledge of these techniques.

An inexpensive but good quality microscope camera.
This camera fit nicely into my stereo microscope. It produced images that were satisfactory. However, the field of view is rather small, about 5 mm in diameter. This can be remedied by adding a 0.5X reduction lens. This lens is a great tool to get started with.

10/10
Of course there are potential areas of improvement, but you clearly know that if you've gotten far enough to read this review. This products costs a fraction of what other similar ones cost, and it works perfectly fine. Definitely better than using my monocular eyepiece, which tends to kill your eyes after 5-10 min. The software is available for free, and the product includes a software CD and appropriate USB. The CD gave me a laugh, I remember those days...I will say that I get better results when using the MAC version vs the windows version, though. The windows version auto-exposure, or white balance or whatever (very much an amateur here) isn't as good.

software unavailable!!!!!
This microscope camera was worthless. The enclosed directions, in microscopic text, contain a serious error - the link for the software needed for the device is incorrect and sends you to the wrong website. I called the Motic/Swift customer service and they told me the user/directions manual was incorrect. They were also aware the problem was the fault of Amazon; apparently Amazon was aware of the error but did not make corrections. No real solution given, just a waste of my time. Also, the device is sent with a worthless miniCD - unusable on my Apple computer. I returned the item because I was unable to get the appropriate software to run the device.

Poor resolution for cells and organelles.
This is the 1.3 mp. item. Resolution of cells was poor. This might be a good resolution for macroscopic organisms. I would recommend the 3 or 5 mp.

Fun and easy
The media could not be loaded. Really fun. Here's something moving around inside a dead insect from a nearby stream.

Great quality!
Great quality, worked as expected and the companion software runs perfectly. The picture quality is not perfect but is enough for most cases and very good for the price.

Works fine
Works nicely. Fits into instead one of the ocular lens. It has a crop effect, so not all the field is captured. Nice video feature.
