This package contains TWO units of the black soldier fly compost bins, also named EZ BSF Lab. The bin is for growing and harvesting black soldier fly larvae. It easy to set up and use for ongoing success. This is a compost system specifically made for the black soldier fly larvae. For each unit, it has a 10.5 gallon capacity, 7 gallons of compost area and 3.5 gallons of area for the soldier flies to fly back into the bin to lay more eggs. The crawl out/harvest ramps are 30 degrees making it easy for the pre-pupae larvae to crawl out/self harvest. There is a chute at the top of the ramp with a 3/4 gallon catch bin for the pupae to fall into. There are two access holes on each side of the bin for the flies to reenter to lay their eggs. At the bottom there is a half turn drain spigot to drain the compost leache from the bin without losing any larvae. Slide out lid for easy feeding and moisture control. Each unit can hold over 200,000 small or 50,000 large larvae. Once the bin is established in the right weather (warm to hot) the flies can naturally continue refilling the bin with larvae. It is made from 100% recycled UV resistant plastic.

This things are cheap garbage and sold at a ridiculous price. Absolutely not worth the money, seller was underhanded and took forever to respond so I was out of return window.

Ramp flaws
I bought a single bin to test out in Central Florida. Last summer there were black soldier flies in the compost so I bought a bsf bin to help feed my chickens. The bin is good sized. I dumped a container of approximately 1000 larvae in it and they’ve done well. I like that the bin is black so it’s not too noticeable to the neighbors and nosey people. It needs to be in a more shaded area because it gets super hot in the sun.I ordered the live larvae and used the bin to raise them. The idea was to feed them in the bin and they’d use the ramp to self-harvest. A wild bsf laid her eggs on the wall of the bin but due to lack of humidity they dried out. The substrate is wet but the walls are dry and the ramps are dry so the larvae aren’t using them.Florida hasn’t quite switched to summer weather… it is only 45% humidity outside so that could explain part of the problem I’m having. I have misted the bin several times and the ramps dry out really fast. Since the substrate is so wet, I do not want to add too much moisture and drown them but I’m not able to maintain humidity on the walls and ramps without frequent misting.I had eggies setting on a wire rack over the compost inside the bin and I did get one cluster of eggs off that. The one on the wall was much bigger. The bin lacks a place for the bsf to lay eggs so you have to create your own. For the price, you’d think the eggie set up would be included. To salvage this group of larvae I’m going to have to dump and sift them out because they are already turning into prepupae and pupae, which defeats the purpose of buying this bin.I will try again when outdoor humidity is higher…

Works, somewhat, but design flaws pervade
These are far better than some of the homemade BSF bins constructed largely out of wood, which fall apart and leak worms within a few months. So the yield here, you are more sure that you are not losing worms. BUT these need substantially more ventilation for the frass to not turn into soup and continually have escape problems with moisture on the walls. The collations being on two different sides means you need to have access to both sides of the bin, which needs to be accounted for in where you place it. The drain system seems to work well. I have drilled several 1" holes in the sides of my bins and am still having humidity issues. Not sure I'd buy again but not sure there is a better product out there.

Holes
Worms escape extremely easy do to holes not being covered with screening held together by crappy Skewer rather than a bolt an nut. It’s does make good for compost tea but other than that you will be buying new worms every time they morph into flies as they just escape.
