Q: Do you have to loosen the clamp to swivel the tray?

No. It remains tight and will still swivel the pad. It’s a very smooth glide also, not loose or choppy. I use the feature a lot as I am always sitting/standing in diff positions. I highly recommend!

Q: The non-slip mat has partially detached. how would i go about reattaching it? what kind of glue would i need?

I haven’t had that problem yet but I did notice one end is starting to pull up.

Q: Is the mouse pad firm enough to write on? Or would the pen poke through the paper and into the mouse pad?

I don't think it would work too well to write on, and I do think the pencil would poke through the paper. But it does work well for its intended use as mouse pad.

Q: How big is the space from the side where the clamp hits the desk to the opening? Not how wide it opens, but how far onto the desk it goes?

A shade under 2 inches. Puts my keyboard right where I want it.
