Beautifully illustrated drawing exercises for beginners
This book has many useful drawing exercises that should be useful for both beginners and those with intermediate level skills looking to reinforce core principles. The illustrations are beautiful, and the exercises seem well designed to develop the ability to render drawing subjects with rich tonality as well as accuracy of form.

You need to draw BIG when using this book
I've taken online art classes on drawing and want to move my skills up to the next level of proficiency. I've just started using this guidebook.Pros: It's well written. Exercises are useful and the author explains things well. I truly think it's worth purchasing.Cons: Here's why 4 stars - Firstly, I'm surprised that the author does not address how to hold the pencil. (At least not as far I've got into the book) There are different ways to hold the pencil, but my point is that the way one holds the pencil to write is not the way one holds the pencil to draw.Secondly, the exercises in this book should really be performed on a large sheet of paper. I've been taught that in learning to draw, one needs to get the whole arm involved ( just the hand and wrist motions are usually not used unless for fine detail) For each exercise, I took 18x24 newsprint (cheap paper) and did the exercises multiple times.I found this to be very helpful, especially for the beginning exercises.I feel the author should mention this, or at the very least, the book should be printed in a larger format.
