Pretty impressed
I've only had this a few days, and I'm pretty happy with the unit as it is. For the most part, it's like having an android tablet as your radio. The launcher is based on the launcher3 launcher and appears exactly as shown in the pictures; the FM Radio, Clock and Music bits shown in the main pictures are widgets and there's a 4th on the next swipe. After that are icons representing all the default apps on the unit. To uninstall it's a matter of tap and holding the icon and dragging it to the bottom. In this regard because there is a lip around the screen of about an inch, it can get touchy about dragging the icons on the bottom. Since it has the Google Play store on it, you can opt to download different launchers to use, like AGAMA or CarWebGuru). The screen is 1200x600 and is capacitative (like a modern phone/tablet) and is pretty responsive. No complaints about performance as of yet. It seems to be bright enough to handle usage during the day, a complaint I had about my last stereo, a Pioneer MVH-X690BS. Volume/Power seems sufficient, though I haven't tuned the EQ to my liking yet. It is 45w x4 vs 50w of my previous stereo. How much of a noticeable difference that is, I will have to use longer term to comment. For my 2008 Rabbit, I have added a backup camera that basically replaces one of the license plate lights (has a LED light too). I was able to wire up the camera by using the red wire with the red plug and attaching it to the red wire with the yellow plug on the bumper end. Then at the head unit I initially used the green RCA input for the RCAM and the associated wire for it. Then I was able to put the car into reverse to see the camera. I changed it up a little bit so I could pop into the rear camera whenever by moving the red wire from the rear camera power wire to the acc+ red power wire, and then used a female RCA to 2x male RCA splitter and also put it in the FCAM plug. Then I'm able to use it both as the normal rear camera or use the FCAM app to activate the front camera. I have not figured out yet how to get something to record from the rear camera yet, which is my end goal. I might try some sort of RCA to USB adapter to try that, but it's not a high priority..I also purchased the 1080p USB camera from Xtrons (ASIN: B07MBYCG4C), and it is pretty much plug and play; after plugging it in, you use the file explorer app to install the associated recorder app for it and will start recording as soon as you pop a microsd card in the camera. I think you can use the DVR app or the Camera app to view the recordings, and can choose between 1, 3, or 5 minute recording intervals. It comes with an external WIFI antenna with 3M-like tape on it, and a GPS antenna that curiously does not. With both anternnas plugged in, reception from their corresponding functions is pretty good. There are also 3 USB extension cords that can be plugged into the unit, though I can only use 2 since I have the 1080p dashcam unless I use the 3rd as a extension of an extension. I'm not sure what I'd use this functionality yet, though it seems like there might be a mirroring functionality app on the headunit that uses the USB cables. As far as the install of the radio itself goes, it's 1:1 the OEM radio for MK5 and maybe MK6 Rabbits (Golf)/GTI/R32. You do not need a dash kit or wiring harness for this unit. I did buy a FAKRA splitter so I could plug both plugs into the radio, though I think I could have gotten away with one of them. The included microphone was a stubby one that had no sort of mount, and used the block plug like all the other bits do; I had hoped I could have reused my microphone from the previous radio with the mini jack on it, but alas, no. It had a clip that the ball joint on the microphone used, so I shaved that off and superglued it to the new microphone so I could clip it back up on my A-pillar like before.Aside from my self-inflicted extra steps of pulling wires through the front dash (taking out the glove box and pulling off the trim below the steering wheel, the fun part will be being able to choose how the radio looks and operates. Would totally do again if I had the choice.Next is the swap from a plain SW to a GTI multi-function SW so I can use steering wheel controls :)

get it professionally installed.
i had mine professionally installed and it looks like a factory unit. canbus connected to my car straight away and everything is working as it should. i think it is worth it to pay a few extra bucks for the octo-core and max memory/storage (4/64).my previous head unit had android auto... which is garbage for the most part... so for me a true android head unit was the way to go.this being a pure andriod device... there is a lot to set up... i am a former android power user and even i find this a bit much... but i like my stuff set up the way i like it... and there's a lot of downloading and fine tuning that needs to be done to make that happen. if you are new to android... this might not be the product for you...****the version of this head unit that is currently for sale IS NOT the same one that i reviewed. the one for sale is the new 2021 version. since i have no experience with that particular unit i can't comment on it.edit #2: i got the 2022 android 12 version last year. but it was android 11 when i got it... at first... i was really disappointed... and i had to get in touch with customer support a bunch of times... despite what other folks have said they were very responsive... just initially not very helpful... but responsive nonetheless... anyway... i had multiple emails back and forth with xtrons (which is in china and there for sure was a language barrier) and what ended up happening is they released an android 12 version of the ROM for the head unit. i had them send me the link to download that new ROM... flashed it on my head unit. and boom. bob's your uncle. haven't. had. a. problem. with. it. since. and that's the truth. Ruth. so yeah. the android 12 version is the way to go for sure. on my VW Golf R it's plug and play with the canbus, the DYNAUDIO system, and obd2... all which run through the head unit for more fun than you can shake a stick at.i will say... lastly... that since 2019 when i first started down this xtrons rabbit hole... android auto has improved greatly and is nowhere near as quirky as it used to be. most of the time it works perfectly now no matter what car i'm in... and i use a lot of rental cars etc. always able to jack right into the android. it didn't used to be that way. so i'm not sure that a standalone android head unit is as necessary as it used to be.... but... there are a lot of things you can do in motion/at speed with it... that android auto forbids you from doing while you are in motion... plus i mean... you can watch hoonigan videos while you're driving down the road (i do not recommend and highly discourage such things!!!). so yeah. if android auto is working for you then cool. if you want to take your ish next level. get this jammie. word.

Surprising little unit, one year in
Has issues with bluetooth, customer service never got back to me about it. It's a nice replacement for the stock unit, plug and play. Been installed for a few months and have had only a few issues where it turns on but the screen is black, a restart of the car remedies this. Overall it's not bad. A little pricey but for an all in one package I can't complain.Touch screen is a little lacking, edges are kind of close to the edge so touch isn't great in these areas. A stylus in my car helps with this.Trying to figure out a screen protector for anti-glare as it's a very glossy screen.Overall not a bad purchase, just need customer service to up there game a bit. Maybe supply updates for bugs?Hopefully it last a long time, paired with an alpine power pack for some more oomph and better clarity.**1 year update**This unit still works wonderfully, I bumped it up from 4 to 5 stars based on the longevity and the fact that their customer service DID get back to me and supplied me with an update for the operating system. I have not tried the Bluetooth for music since but it works flawlessly for phone calls. Also it can handle a 128GB micro SD card in the front slot, thought my audio player gets kind of laggy upon start up with it, but it holds all my music just fine and playback is perfect.I would recommend this to anyone looking for an android based head unit for the specific model cars it is for and Xtrons has earned a future customer if I even need something for any other projects I have in the future.
