Great value for versatility. Use the computer to program unless
So, I would suggest using your computer to program this. The exception being on-the-fly changes needing to be made when scanning different barcodes or I to different applications.Once the program is installed on your computer to program this, it's pretty straightforward and works exactly as expected. In my situation, I'm able to scan multiple types of barcodes and they all get entered exactly as expected. The included stand works great. Creates the visible laser line and makes scanning a breeze. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

My go to scanner whenever I need one
This scanner just works and works every time. It can read a huge variety of barcodes (not the 2 dimensional barcodes). It is programmable to customize the scanner to append characters to the barcodes you scan. You can even turn on or off different symbologies that way if you have a card with multiple barcodes on it (of differing types, i.e. Code39 or Code 128, etc...) you can allow the scanner to only scan one barcode. This prevents scanning errors. These have been used in our facility for years and we haven't had one break yet despite many drops onto hard cement floors. These things will last a long time.On a side note, I don't like their new line of LI scanners. They use an imaging sensor without the laser beam and they just don't read the barcodes as quickly. It often takes a second or two longer to scan anything with their new scanners and that little amount of time can be frustrating if you are trying to scan a lot of items. All the scanners that start with LS have been awesome for me. Anything with LI at the beginning should be avoided if possible. Don't get me wrong, they all still work, its just that the LI takes a little longer to get it to read properly.

Plug and Play!
This was just what I needed to replace a scanner that quit working after several years. All I had to do was plug it in and it worked right off.

Perfect for register programming usage.
I got this because I'm an I.T. consultant and now have 2 gas stations/stores I handle I.T. for. This scanner integrates with my linux laptop without the need for any extra drivers and works flawlessly in scanning in products to enter into my client's register with.

Not Impressed
I have a small online retail business and use a barcode scanner when filling orders. I had been using the following $40 TaoTronics scanner for quite a while:http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006LVO56W/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1But recently started using very small barcodes on some products and thought the LS2208 (due to it's great reputation) would do a much better job. I was wrong.Pros:- The LS2208 can scan items more rapidly than the TaoTronics scanner, as long as they are the correct distance away (see cons)Cons:- Whenever the computer is turned on, or woken up from sleep mode, the scanner emits three very loud beeps of increasing pitch (low, medium, high). These beeps are incredibly annoying and can be heard through a ceiling and two walls. I contacted Motorola (see con below) and they said there is no way to disable the startup beeps. Very annoying to hear all throughout the day.- Motorola support is terrible. When I had a question about the TaoTronics scanner, I emailed the Amazon seller (who put me in touch with the manufacturer) and I got my question answered the same day. The first challenge with Motorola support is getting in contact with the company. They don't have a support email listed anywhere on their website and it's difficult to find the appropriate contact form. Then, after submitting the contact form on the appropriate Motorola division's website, the email gets forwarded to a different department where they create a ticket for me (which they email me to let me know), and finally a few days later I get an email from them. The first time I contacted them I just had a very simple question and they wanted to set up a phone appointment and answer it! The second time, it took just as long, but they answered the question in their reply email. Motorola really needs to improve their support system.- Unlike the TaoTronics scanner, the LS2208 won't read a barcode unless it's within a certain distance range of the scanner (there's a diagram showing the specifications in the manual). I can scan a small barcode with the TaoTronics scanner with the barcode almost touching the scanner, all the way to the surface the stand is on, but with the LS2208 I have to get the barcode's distance from the scanner "just right" in order for it to read. For such an expensive scanner, I thought it would be better than the TaoTronics one, but it's much worse in this regard.- When the computer is put to sleep, then woken up again (which I do a lot), the scanner doesn't wake up properly. The scanner won't read anything and the laser blinks every second or so. To get it working again, I have to lift the scanner off the stand and then set it back down again. So to sum up, when I wake my computer up from sleep I:1. Hear three loud, annoying beeps2. Have to lift the scanner of the stand and then set it back down before using it3. Have to position the barcodes just the right distance from the scanner in order for them to readMotorola will not be getting any more business from me.

Did not work for Interleave 2 of 5
Ordered for a project requiring a low-end barcode reader and Interleave 2 of 5 barcodes. The sample barcodes in the manual worked just fine. However. it would not read the Interleave 2 of 5 barcodes from our project. We tried multiple different settings with no luck. Higher end barcode readers had no issue (Honeywell Orbit and Honeywell Vuequest 3319).We needed a low-end reader.Ordered the Motorola LI2208 barcode reader - about $25 more than the LS2208 but uses a different scanning engine. This worked out of the box for our Interleave 2 of 5 barcodes.

Great quality and very fast
I bought two of these scanners second hand. They were easy to configure and work great for registering clients in my yoga school. We use mindbodyonline to scan clients barcodes.Highly recommended
