Lovely edition of an important book
This is a superb edition of one of the most important books ever written on zoology and the natural world, if not science itself. Darwin’s work is clear, accessible, and a pleasure to read. It was also written at a time before genetics was understood, and yet Darwin could see that the vast variety of forms present in nature suggested some kind of mechanism that, when acted upon by natural selection, had been an engine of evolution for millions of years. This embossed hardback edition with gold block lettering is a very smart edition to anyone’s library.

Viva la evolution
On the construction of the book; The book is beautifully made, hard green leather cover, silky clean white pages with no text drop off and a nice golden silk ribbon bookmark - the picture for amazon does the book no justice. On the contents of the book; The book contains the diagram which Darwin occasionally refers to throughout the book, I thought this worth mentioning as when looking for this book I saw complaints on other editions that the diagram was not included so made the descriptions pointless. As described on the back of the book, this is one of the most important scientific books. This was the reason I purchased it, I have read several more recent books on evolution and natural selection but nothing of this depth. The book is a very interesting read and I am certainly glad I have read it, this being a theory Darwin has gone to great lengths to strengthen every aspect of his argument. The book contains lots of interesting facts about the way our very world is shape and some great extracts on experiments Darwin completed to prove his theory as well as some great observations on the habits of wildlife. Going into this book already believing in evolution can make this book at times a difficult read, not due to the language used as this really does hold up, more to the fact that Darwin really is pushing the point on his theory and will often repeat information from previous chapters only this time applying it to a newly discussed aspect of natural selection, each chapter is also summarised discussing the work just read. This does not take away from the book it is important to into this knowing the purpose of the content, this book was used to prove what is now the fundamental belief of most people, so the depth of detail Darwin goes into can be heavy but it serves its purpose here.I highly recommend this book and personally believe this book is an essential read to anyone trying to better understand life and the world we live in.

Wonderful edition!
For those of us who cannot own a copy of the first edition, this is a wonderful "second best." Beautifully printed and bound, a joy to read. Though I have a paperback printing of the Origin, old and battered through much use, I found this edition a refreshing alternative. And so reasonably priced.
