Q: Is this the best vanilla bean I can buy?

They're the best ones I have found so far. I have bought from a few others, one came in moldy and 2 others came in so dried up they were useless. The ones in my local grocery store are ridiculously high priced, small and not very moist. I have bought these from this vendor twice now and have not been disappointed.

Not sure but one bean equals 1 tsp. I split and add one bean to a whole recipe of custard which takes 4 cups of milk and 1 cup of sugar.

I use a minimum of two beans for every fifth of vodka. There are many good recipes on the internet as well as videos. I prefer to infuse espresso powder that has been mixed 1:1 with water with a good simple syrup made of 2 cups sugar boiled in one cup water then cooled; then add that along with the split beans (2) to the vodka, seal tightly and store in a cool dry place for at least six weeks.
