First question most people ask is do you have to buy a developer.Yes, you do. Optimally 3 oz of Sparks liquid developer.How many packs do you need is the next question.For short to shoulder length hair. For longer hair use more packets at a 3 oz liquid developer for each.Not using enough to evenly cover hair is a common at home mistake. Uneven bleaching/ color lifting results in uneven color developing later.Don't forget to brush through side to side. It is unbelievably easy to have dry (without color lightener) spots in areas that you missed brushing back, forward, and side to side. Even in short hair they can be missed. Be sure to comb hair in all directions. Better to use more than miss a spot that in a few weeks will become really, really noticeable as color begins to fade/ wash out.Just remember 1 packet to a 3oz bottle of developer.Yes, you can use developers other than Spark's developer, BUT nobody can guarantee the results when you mix brands.Be sure to have a non metal mixing bowl, and plastic hair dye brush. They don't come with the packets, nor the developer.You also want old clothes for the hair lightening process - it will bleach materials.Petroleum jelly on the skin where hair lightener / dye might come in contact will help protect the skin.Use clarifying shampoo, and hot water prior to lightening, and when washing lightening dye out. NO conditioner. The clarifying shampoo takes all the product out of your hair prior to, and after lightening. Hot water helps open hair follicles for the lightening, and dyeing process. (Cold to cool water on color dyed hair with color protecting shampoo and conditioner's help your color last longer)We use this lightener every time before using the Spark's Mermaid Blue dye, and have had excellent results!! Used this for my first attempt to ever lighten my hair. Worked great. I bought two just in case expecting I needed one, which was good. I have hair just past my shoulders and I did need two. My hair was lighted great. Then I used 3 different Sparks colors and had so much fun. Husband said he felt like he was with someone else. lol But I do believe I had to keep it on about 35 minutes to get the color as light as I wanted it.

This plus the sparks 20 vol creme developer covered my head of thick, curly shoulder length dark brown hair and took it to a bright yellow, which is what I wanted for the sparks green & blue dyes. I did have to process it for two hours to achieve that color according to my strand test, but I was happy with the volume of product and coverage. The smell was unpleasant at first, which is why it gets 4 stars, but that's to be expected from this type of hair dye.

I'll never go back to another brand or color line after discovering Sparks. I had 6 years of color buildup on my naturally blonde hair and NOTHING I tried could manage to pull the red tones out of my hair. The Sparks lightening powder and 20vol creme developer did the trick with AMAZING results. My hair was pure white, the only thing I'll do different this time around is start atvthe bottom where the oldest growth is and really allow the lightener to pull those deepest shades out. I'm a fan!!

Most caustic bleach I have ever had the missfotune of using. ATE THROUGH my tuxedo gloves! Had to have my client wash it out immediate because the fumes were so bad and her scalp was burning and it ATE THROUGH chemical safe gloves! My lungs were on fire. I've worked with several brands of bleach this is the WORST! Will never buy again. I only attempted because it was the brand my client really wanted to use. So mad because of this I've had to stop and will have to reschedule. I've lost both time and money on this. Buyer beware unless you plan on doing this out side and on someone who has a indestructible scalp use another bleach.

I have been coloring my hair black for a couple of years, and it was red for quite a while before that, so I wasn't expecting to go platinum, but I would've been happy with a level 4, 5 if I got lucky. After 30 minutes with 40 volume developer, my hair had lightened to about a 2 or 3. I just figured it was because of the years and years of color in it, but a few days later, I used another brand on a different section of my hair and after 20 minutes with the same developer, it had lightened to a 6 or 7. I love Sparks color and have Electric Blue and Purple Passion in my hair right now, but I don't think I'll be using their bleach again.

I used this product to lighten before using the Sparks dye I. LOVE. IT. It didn’t smell half as bad as other bleaches and it worked well with the developer I already had. I left it on for about an hour and my hair went from a chestnut brown to a level 8 blonde WITHOUT frying my hair. Plus it came 4 days early. Best. Bleach. Powder. Ever!!!!Edit: I forgot to add this but it washed easily as well. Nor did my hair fall out in clumps during processing!

this bleach really lifts the shades of color. even when using a 20 developer. It is really YELLOW blond tho. which is ok because im going to dye my hair silver wit the attemp to have it all one grey color. not the salt and pepper BS i got going on. Its not a white blond at all. But it really lightens as you can see
