A beautiful, practical (if somewhat pricy) set of cutlery
I am very impressed with this cutlery set.I liked the look of it so much I bought 2 sets (from another retailer). I paid £90 less than the manufacturers website! That said, I've NEVER spent this much on cutlery before (usually less than £30), let alone then double it.So to start with, they are of a good weight without being too heavy. They are also well balanced and sit very comfortably in the hand. They look great laid out on the table, especially with the unique way the knives can sit. And the matt black plastic and satin steel go really well together, and they also come in a very professional and sturdy presentation box. They are also dishwasher safe. While not designed as either a butter-spreading knife or a steak knife, I would say that the knives are adequate for both of these tasks. The rounded end of the blade is sufficient for spreading, just. And the serrations have easily cut through a sandwich, jacket potato, roast potatoes, steak and roast lamb with very little, if no, pressure needing to be applied. They just glide through. All the pieces are marked 1810 stainless steel, EXCEPT for the knives... So although nothing is said in the literature, the knives could be from a harder steel. They certainly have a great cutting edge from my limited use so far.Robert Welch also make a steak knife set in the same style. These state they're made with a specially hardened stainless steel, which *might* also apply to the knives above. However, I dont really see the need for steak knives as the table knives are so good.
