Southland Archery Supply SAS Maverick One Piece Traditional Wood Hunting Bow

Before buying this bow I looked at so many different bows that cost less money and they included other thing that came with the bow, but I felt that I rather my money go into the bow and not on other items that came with the bow so I did not mind paying $177 for just the bow and string. The bow arrived as promised by Amazon and in great condition. The bow looks real nice and looks well made. I live in upstate NY so I had to get a bow with 35 lb pull or greater to legally hunt deer with it so I got a 40 lb pull. This bow looks and feels so awesome that I am very happy with it. The company that makes the bow is the best as far as I am concerned, I called them on the phone and right away a representative picked up and I asked if I can have another string for the bow I just purchased, I told them string didn't break, the string is ok I just want an extra one, without hesitation they said yes, they did not even ask me to write a review I decided to write one on my own because I am so satisfied with this bow. So smooth and quiet. I did put limb silencers on it. No string silencers needed.Bought 400 spine arrow with 150 grain tips. Perfection for my 55lb choice! Got a little worried because it felt to strong. But after 500 shots. She feels perfect.

Just getting into traditional and didn't want to spend an arm and leg for a bow.Found this and bought it, expecting it to be mediocre.No sir, this things friggin sweet.The finish is like a matte. The bow is light.It flings sticks like a raped ape at 50#.The string is quality and didn't stretch much during break in.I added beaver balls to the string and groove silencers and it got EVEN BETTER.This bow does accept fast flight strings, so I just ordered a fast flight Flemish which I'm sure will make it MORE kick ass.Only wish it came with a manual so I'd know brace height for set up, but Contacted SAS and they hooked me up.Looking forward to shooting it more, and maybe picking up another SAS bow of different variety.Buy this. You shouldn't be disappointed.

I've purchased a Sammick Sage a few years back to get into archery and I decided to upgrade to the Maverick after getting a crack on my old bow's riser. this Maverick Bow is way better than the sammick sage that I own. I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it feels and preforms.This is as barebow as it gets...there's no sockets for plungers, sights or counterweights, and the limbs cannot be taken apart as it is one full piece. That can be a deal breaker for some, but for me it's less stuff to worry about. The bow string is a higher quality that the one from my old bow, so that's a plus. I set my brace height to 7-1/2", installed the arrow plate pad that came with the bow, and got my nocking points installed so that I could shoot a couple of arrows. The distance shot was around 17 yards and shot using the string walking method. I was surprised that I almost hit the target dead center on the first try. I shot a few more arrows and it stayed in the yellow area, so I know it's precise. The draw weight felt right poundage wise, but I have no way of testing that myself. It was comparable to my old bow though, so it should be accurate. The wood design is beautiful and the texture of the bow feels smooth. I was a bit worried that it would feel slippery when drawing to shoot, but was relieved that I could hold it steady without issues. When shooting, it's pretty quiet as is, but I'll be installing some string silencers in the near future just because I'm used to adding them.The only minor drawback that I have about this purchase is that it did not come with a bow stringer. I feel like that's something that's necessary to have in order to set up the bow, especially for the heavier draw weights, so not having one included is a negative for me. Luckily, I already had one, but it's something to keep in mind if you're shopping around for your first bow.Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I own two bows, a 55-pound and a 60-pound SAS Maverick. The 55-pound model has split edges, which means it’s likely to snap soon. I’ve had many bows break while learning, and I know from experience that improper stringing or using the wrong arrows can lead to failure, but this bow's vibration will significantly shorten the lifespan of the limbs. Both the 55-pound and 60-pound models have the same vibration issues, which suggests it's a design flaw.The handle is extremely thin and small, and with the higher poundage, it digs into your hand like a knife. Combined with the excessive vibration, it makes shooting very uncomfortable from the first shot. By the time you're done, your hand is in pain. The riser is very tight, and the string hits your arm with every shot—I've never had to use an arm guard with any other bow, but with this one, it’s a must. Without it, your arm will be bruised after each use. You also need too much gear to shoot this bow properly, making it inconvenient compared to others.If the bow had lower poundage, the vibration might not be as much of an issue. Overall, I highly recommend looking at other brands. Amazon offers far better options at lower prices. The Sanlida bow is $50 cheaper, comes with arrows, and is nearly identical to the SAS, as both are made in China. A much better option is the Black Hunter, which is the best $100 bow you can buy. It competes with my Bear Archery bow, which costs five times as much. For those looking for a lower-poundage bow, Deerseeker is a great choice. If you want a high-pound hunting bow, the 60-pound Black Hunter is incredibly powerful, accurate, and an absolute steal at under $100.

Awesome addition to the family. Smooth, excellent accuracy. Far less vibration than my Fleetwood takedown.Hair rest with it is junk, buy a 2 piece felt set. Feather fletch arrow shoots like a dream. Plastic vanes off the shelf ends badly, don't use 'em. 😁
