GP-9N GP9N GP9-N Original Comet 2m/70CM Dual Band 17ft Base Antenna with N-Type Connection End

I had this antenna temporarily mounted at 5 feet above the ground and it heard and transmitted to repeaters 40 miles away. Now that it's up at 60 feet I can communicate 80 miles plus.

This is the third GP-9N (N for N coaxial connector) I have acquired. Put it up at 95' on the end of a 200+ foot length of LDF5-50. Tunes over the lower end of 2M nicely. It survived the 80 mph summer storms but I did add an additional horizontal plastic pipe brace to the tower about 2/3 the way up.

Very Good Antenna I Would go as Far as to Say it is One of if not The Best Vertical VHF/UHF Base Antenna That Money Can Buy As Long As you Use Very Good High Quality Coax & not some cheep junk from amazon or ebay..Do Your Home Work &You will be Well Pleased with this Antenna ..I Also added good marine grade adhesive lined 1.5in heat shrink to the assembly sections and 2-3 light clear coats (Cheep Insurance)! i have talked all over the place on it & I regularly hit repeaters about 100 miles away from 25 ft n the air ! it really is a Great Antenna !

This antenna is available with both the SO-239 and N-type female connectors at the base of the antenna. The N-type connector is the best connector for frequencies above 150 MHz, which is the 70cm (420-450 MHz) amateur band. This antenna is a dual band antenna, covering both the 2M and 70cm amateur bands. Additionally, the N-type connector is a better connector for sealing out moisture, although an electrical dielectric and a coax seal tape are additional and necessary connector protections. Adding a high grade black electrical tape over the coax seal tape is also recommended, to protect the coax seal tape from UV and weather deterioration. Don't overlook the coax you should use, which should be LMR-400 or LMR-600, as suggested minimums. These recommendations will help you maximize and realize the potential of this excellent ground plane VHF/UHF dual band antenna.

I would have given all 5 stars but the antenna came broken and noticed no protection for product, like bubble wrap etc, this item is somewhat fragile and can easily break without shipping protection barriers, otherwise i know its a very good antenna

I love this antenna. I have much better receiving and sending on my radio. I amable to connect with repeaters that were just a little to far.
