It's the Best Sony phone to date!
Believe the hype. Its an Amazing Sony Xperia phone. Fast, camera is stunning, selfie quality is good. I heard negative reviews on selfie cam but I'm happy with it. Front camera quality is better than xz3 model. Sound quality is the best Sony Xperia sound I've heard. Its a tall phone, slim, and comfortable. I know price is steep but its worth it. It will last for years.

Upgraded from the 7 year old Xperia Z - Absolutely Thrilled
Believe it or not my last purchase of the Sony Xperia Z back in 2013 was still serving me well enough as my main phone, a testament to the quality and longevity of these devices. However still running Android 4.4 Kitkat and having almost zero space left was taking its toll on the phone's ability to do basic tasks. After reading a bit and seeing that Sony's newest flagship had brought back the 3.5mm audio jack, continued with the simple pared back android interface (which I'd always appreciated) and had ample storage and speed capabilities - I decided to just buy the Xperia 1 ii outright. It arrived the next day and I also got the official Sony case, a good screen protector from Panzerglass, and a 256GB SD card.I suppose after 7 years with the same phone, any modern smart device of almost any cost would have felt impressive and an upgrade, but I wanted to again purchase quality with the idea of longevity in mind.I'm thoroughly impressed with the tall and narrow build, it's easy and pleasant to hold. The display is something else - even coming from the 1080p display of the Xperia Z.The loudspeakers are a great volume, I've been using them a lot for talk radio, the supplied headphones are great for private listening too, bluetooth works well for any external devices like speakers. The charger is a USB C to USB C type, so if you want to connect it to a computer for data transfer you will need to purchase a cable for that. The charging is very fast (again, anything would be after a 7 year old phone), the first 50% from 0 takes 30 minutes. 10% in around 3 minutes if you really need something quick. I utilise the battery save function to prolong the life of it.All in all very intuitive and easy to use phone, but I've only ever had android so I don't have much to compare it to. I'm not a big camera person but of course the images to me look fantastic and video recording is beautiful to watch back.I'm also not much of a gamer but anything I have played, or videos I've watched are just a delight on the screen with the 21:9 aspect ratio. I really wanted something built to last, with exceptional performance and reliability, and I feel that's what I've got.To another 7 years.... Perhaps :D

Finally a flagship phone from Sony worth the money spent on it.
I have been a Sony user over the last years, but have been known to be quite unfaithful, in the sense that I have tried both Samsung and Huawei flagship phones. This is the best phone I have owned so far. As simple as that. Don't get misguided by the numerous reviews alone, as most users tend to use phones without going to the full extent of their capabilities. Camera :great. Screen size and tech : probably the best around. 21/9 ratio much more comfy for a large phone. Fingerprint scanner much better located than on the screen and working perfectly. All in all a perfect phone!Looking forward to the xperia 5ii phone, as i believe that a 6.1 inch phone is ideal for everyday use.

Excellent phone with a few reservations
I really like the build quality of this phone, its ergonomics, processing speed, fantastic screen, sound quality and excellent camera system. It's also great to have an audio jack again, so I don't have to fiddle around with an adapter. It doesn't come with a lot of bloated apps like other manufacturers stuff on their phones, but I was disappointed to find a number of bundled apps installed, including: Call of Duty, Facebook, LinkedIn, Netflix, Prime Video and Tidal Music; none of which I will ever use. The worst one was Call of Duty which, when the phone ran its first app updates, promptly downloaded 2GB of data! The problem is these apps have all been made 'system' apps, so they can't easily be uninstalled. Fortunately, you can disable them and delete the data they have stored.Having the fingerprint sensor in the power switch is a novel feature. However it often struggles to recognise my fingerprints (despite careful cleaning). It seems to be rather critical on alignment for me. I have tried re-running the setup with my fingers at different angles to the phone and managed to get it to perform a bit better, but it's still only recognises my prints in about half the attempts.Another feature of the phone is 'side sense'. However I like to use a flip type case and this prevents the side sense sensors from working.Playing music through the phone's speakers or headphones is excellent. However, when I paired the phone with my car (Toyota) via bluetooth, I found that playing music from the phone through the car's entertainment system was very, very quiet. In fact it was virtually inaudible at the normal volume settings. I had to turn up the phone's media setting to max and increase the car's volume setting to 3 times its normal level to get an acceptable sound level. Of course, when I then switched the car's system to a different sound source it was far, far too loud. Both of my previous phones had given a more consistent sound level with the same car, without needing to adjust the volume settings.
