Caldwell Mag Plus Shoulder Recoil Protection Pad (Ambidextrous)
Great pad. Middle aged male with bony shoulders appreciates the protection from recoil. Have put it through the test with 100 12-guage rounds on a couple of occasions and this pad really did the trick -- no shoulder discomfort afterwards. Though price of $26 seemed high at first, it is earning its keep.Pros:Protects shoulder from recoil extremely well -- exceeded expectations.Good quality components/construction.Easily put on using its two straps (buckle strap around chest and velcro strap to belt loop). Recommend pulling vertical velcro strap around back and attaching to belt loop on opposite side from the pad. In my case, right handed/shoulder mounting shooter attaches to belt loop under left shoulder or slightly to front.Stays in place on shoulder while shooting if attached properly (keep chest strap and belt loop straps snug, not over tightened). Will fit over coats, etc., with adjustment, thereby a versatile solution.Cons:A little pricey, but worth the investment.Takes a little fumbling to get initial attachment set up -- not too difficult but a second person would make it easy and quick.Hoping the velcro on the belt loop strap holds up over time. Too early to tell at this early juncture.Unfortunately, still have to clean the shotgun after shooting [just kidding :-)]I look forward to many trips to the range with this shoulder recoil protection pad. Highly recommended.

Completely eliminates all pain and bruising from recoil!
I recently had to rapid fire 200+ rounds of heavily loaded slugs and buckshot from a semi-auto shotgun. With just a T-shirt and a smile for padding. Halfway through, my smile faded and I had to take a break from the painful bruising in my shoulder.I got the Super Mag Plus with the thickest padding (1 inch) and went back at it. This time I felt nothing. No pain at all. I would highly recommend this to all shotgun users. Some people I’ve talked to says that these kinds of shoulder pads don’t work at all, but I think they have just not tried this Super Mag Plus with 1 inch padding. It’s makes an enormous difference to your comfort when shooting! The fit felt good for me (6.1” 210lbs) and I very much appreciate the rough (but soft) leather on both sides of the padding - it makes for a firm and stable hold between buttstock, pad and body. It works great both outside clothing, inside clothing or between clothing. One downside when using this thick padding is that you have to take this into account when mounting the shotgun. If you just lift the buttstock straight up to your cheek, it might bump into the shoulder pad. So you’ll have to move the shotgun forward away from your body a little bit so it clears the padding before you can mount it properly. It’s a muscle memory training thing, if you want to do this fast and consistently.

Works well
I brought this to use in Argentina where I shot approx 1925 times in 4 days and this thing is a life saver. My only qualm is the fit, you have to sotra get creative with the straps to get it to hold in place. Most likely your field assistant will have seen hundreds of these and can help you with it.

effective, but may be too small for many
Worked great in reducing perceived recoil of my Henry Model X 45-70, but at 5"8", 185# it just fits over a shirt

Tames heavy recoil even from the bench.
I bought this mainly for shooting heavy recoiling centerfire rifles from positions that tend to make recoil particularly punishing, namely sitting, bench, and (worst of all) prone.I tested it earlier today from the bench with my Ruger M77 .30-06 with my full power handloads, then let 'er rip.I could hardly feel the recoil at all, and there was not even a hint of pain, even though I really leaned into it and took as much of the punch as possible. It's reasonably comfortable, although a bit thick in the pad region, but that allows it to take up so much more shock. You have to fasten the chest strap with a Fastex buckle, and there's a secondary snap for your belt to hold it down if you want to use it, but that's not essential for a short time at the bench.Quality construction, and the pad face is a soft, slightly suede leather to allow smooth shouldering of the butt stock.I really like it, and highly recommend it for shooting rifles and shotguns in the recoil category of the .270 and up, especially from the three positions I mentioned I am using this for, and for extended shooting sessions. It gets the job done so well that even my fifteen year old daughter can handle my .30-06 with ease using this wearable recoil pad.

great way to save the shoulder and shoot all day
This same item was 30% to 50% more expensive at other places so I bought it here. There is really nothing else to compare it to on the market in the price range either. I dont even use the straps, I just butt the rifle up to the pad at my shoulder. I use it for test firing several centerfire rifles which normally aggravate an inflamed shoulder from a long time on crutches recently. Spreads the recoil impulse over an area several times larger than the contact point of the rifle cutting the felt impulse into a fraction. Weighs next to nothing and can be put on under a shirt. Simple design and simple materials means it will work for a long time. I used to get bruising and splotches of red from broken blood vessels from the Weatherby 300 and even the short M44 Mosin and a 303 Jungle Carbine. All light weight and heavier bullets. Also great for the 30-06 when sighting in as I went through 40 to 50 rounds having fun and I would usually be done for the day, but I still went on to the Swiss K31 and French MAS 36 both in 7.5mm without tiring.
