Q: I'm new to this kind of stuff. Would I need to buy extra stuff to take ink from the bottle, or does it already come with that?

It does come with a cartridge, but I use bottle ink. I haven't had any problems with it, and I like the flexibly to change colors. The converter is a rubber tube encased on two sides by a thin piece of metal looped over the top. to fill you unscrew the bottom (nib should remain attached to converter) submerge nib in ink, and holding the converter on the metal sides squeeze them together and slowly release drawing ink inside. This is the easiest fill method I have used, and lasts a good long while.

Q: What type of cartridges does it need?

You can only use Pilot/Namiki cartridges in the Metropolitan. I personally use the converter and bottled ink, but that is personal preference and nothing to do with the actual performance of the pen itself. There are other pens out there that are on the inexpensive end of the scale that will take universal cartridges. However, if you are set on a Pilot, I now have 2 myself and have to say I quite like them.

Q: Is the ink flow to intense for the thin pages of a bible ? Will the pages hold or no ?

The ink flow is fine for the thin paper of a bible. Remember you will not be pressing hard on the nib so the paper should not tear. The ink could bleed through the paper, so be cautious and test on a page in the back of the bible to see if it is acceptable.

You can not get replacement nibs... they aren't sold separately, ANYWHERE.
