Will this pull the johnson 09-812b-1 indmar/malibu

Yes. It works on the Indmar 310hp predator engine water pump impeller in my boat. Mine is a v drive and this makes the job so much easier.

Is the propper diameter measurement to determine the correct tool the diameter of the opening or the diameter of the impeller hub?

Frankly, this tool did not work in my application. My impeller and pump housing just didn’t permit the arms of the puller to engage correctly. The tool is very well built but probably needs to be redesigned to justify the “universality” it claims to have
