Perfect for bird feeder identification.
I bought this for everyone in the family to watch/identify birds coming to our feeders, and it's perfect! We have a picture window in the living room overlooking a large deck, with 6 feeders around the deck perimeter. The feeders are not very far away, maybe 20 feet, but these binoculars allow us to see details on the birds that make identification a breeze. Our family of 6 ranges from 14 - 90 yrs old and we can all use them without much trouble. They are very small, lightweight and we store them on the fireplace mantle for easy access. Great product!

Very good, though not perfect.
Very good. It is not perfect. It has pincushion distortion and lower clarity at the perimeter of the view. Given that it is 7x, miniature size, and a very wide field of view, I could live with the imperfections. I looked very hard for a pair of binoculars with a wide view and compact size so I could hold it up for 2 hours for a soccer game, and I settled on this little marvel. In a sporting event, the action can move very fast across the field and this Mini is so light I can use it all game. It is bright compared with another miniature which had roof-prism. I have other pairs of larger 7x binoculars, which just don't have the peripheral view that this mini is providing. If I just ignore the imperfect peripheral area; this Mini is giving the same view as those other pairs I own.Adjustable eye cups will improve the Mini's already high useability.

Too little eye relief to actually be useful
I generally like Carson quality, but the Scout series of compact binoculars are subpar. I returned them. The eye relief (and exit pupil) are just too small on these, so that even without eyeglasses, you have to push your eyeballs almost up to the lenses, crunching eyelashes, or you don't see the image as advertised. What good is a wide field of view if you cannot be comfortable putting your eyes close enough to see it. (And they are not water/fog proof either, but I didn't expect that.) They should discontinue this line and go for something that is a better value, with at least a little more eye relief. The Mini Scout is only useful if tiny binocular size is 99% of of your requirements.

Very portable
Bought this as a gift for a friend who is going on a South American cruise. Having been on a number of trips where there is a lot of wildlife and scenery I found that many times there would be distant sights to see but I did not have my regular binoculars with me. These are extremely lite and small and have decent optics. They easily fit into a pocket or purse. Although I have a number of binoculars I plan on buying these for myself so the when traveling and sightseeing I will always have a pair with me.

Be realistic of what you expect for the size and cost.
These binoculars are really light and small. The measurements are about 2 5/8 inches from front to back, 4 inches side to side fully opened, 3 3/8 inches side to side collapsed, 1 15/16 tall collapsed and the distance measured from the centers of both lenses with the eye cups measures from 2 1/4 to 2 7/8 inches apart. The case with the binoculars in measures about 3 1/4 inch tall, 3 3/4 depth and 3 3/4 wide. The binoculars with case is so light that it isn't worth mentioning. Bear in mind that on the box it does state that it is designed for 13 years and older. Is it something you expect from the kids toy section? No, but don't expect a high end one either. That said I think it works decent. The magnification size in my opinion is good for general looking at things like landscapes or sports that aren't that far away I'd say around a block distance for o.k. close-up of a particular object, or further for panoramic sight seeing. If you want to get up and close at objects far away then these are not for you. I would suggest you go to a store with several different power binoculars and try them out to get an idea of what power you want. Also to see how wide a field view you want. You need to know what to expect and what you will sacrifice in size, weight, power and cost. You need to be realistic about what you want and pay for.The sharpness on these were pretty good. There are some complaints about people can't get both barrels to line up leading to double vision or shadowing around the edges. I noticed this happened if you don't place your eyes close to the cups and adjust the width so your eyes center on both lenses. Some people may not know this and open it too far apart for their eyes or their eyes aren't close enough to use the full spectrum of the lens.I bought these for a hiker so he can travel light and compact. A higher magnification would be nice but it would of added weight, bulk and cost and he would probably leave it at home if it isn't easy to pack.

5-star at twice the price
Great clarity, brightness and fov for $25. And it’s tiny. The claimed 490 ft fov at 1000 yards appears to be accurate and is a good bit wider than my 435 ft Nikon Monarch 7 8x30. The edges aren't sharp but it's far more useful to have a 490 ft fov with blurred edges than it is to have 375 ft fov that’s sharp to the edges. It weighs the same (4.5 oz) as my Opticron 8x25 T4 monocular and is easier on the eye(s).

Binoculars that I will actually bring with me!
For the price these are amazing little binoculars! I saw the same ones at Rick Steve's travel store and they are suprisingly clear and easy to use. I wanted to have something light and small enough that I'd actually bring with me when I travel and these fit the bill. I bought a second pair for my daughter but she was reluctant to have them until she saw their small size ("Too cute!") and functionality. Now they're going with her to Europe!

Very impressive
Did a lot of research and read a bunch of reviews before settling on these 7x18 pocket style binoculars from Carson. I didn't want giant 10x50 binocs, or even 8x42 birding binocs. These were meant for a super portable pair that can fit in a pocket and go anywhere. I took them skiing and the impressed everyone I let borrow them. Very pleased.

Brilliant but you need to get those eyeballs close.
Really great compact binocular but...The focus wheel extends quite a lot and prevented my eyes getting close enough to get the amazing view.I decided to shorten the focus wheel myself and that sorted everything so now I'm really loving these so much I ordered the 8x22 and have just received those so yet to get to try them properly but they look as good as the 7x18 though larger obviously and the focus wheel does not seem to cause me a problem.Anyhow I am very impressed with both of these binoculars but do be aware that the best view is with eyes very close to the lenses (the focus wheel might get in the way with the 7x18 model) but then it is a really great view and I highly recommend them as an owner of about 12 binoculars of various sizes and all more expensive than these Carson.
