Q: Is this thread in separate strands that will unravel, or is it one solid strand?

It is solid.. I can't tell you how many spools of this tread I have used since opening my upholstery shop. It's fantastic thread.

Q: need for repairs on polyester cat beds that rip during washing. Does this hold up in warm or hot washes?

I'm not sure, since it was used on item that needs to be dry cleaned.

Q: How much thicker is this than basic thread ?

Not much thicker, its just more solid, harder or heavier than your normal cotton or synthetic thread.

Q: Hi. What size needle for hand sewing should I use?

I used it on a sewing machine and used size 16. I would suggest a heavy duty needle like you would use on denim
